    Balancing a Scat cast crank

My machinist told me when he has checked those that are SCAT balanced, they are not as well balanced as he likes. Course maybe he likes doing the work to pay for his machine. Just an FYI, the flywheel for external balance is on the spendy side.

    Project Frog Princess

The steel bushing upgrade is complete. I used a reamer to create a snug slip fit for the bushings on the countershaft. This was after annealing the hardened steel bushings by heating them red got with a torch, then letting them cool slowly in a coal bed in my outdoor fireplace. They were trimmed...

Parts for engine assembly are here. I was waiting for pushrods. I have 0.025 valve height variation so the adjustable HS rockers are nice to allow consistent preload setup. The pushrod length is just right. Some have about 0.010 preload with the adjuster fully backed out which is fine.

    magnum cracked heads

To my knowledge the cracks are generally harmless. I'm sure there are exceptions. My thought is not to repair them. Run them or replace them with aftermarket heads. I suspect a repair would not last. Just my guess, not from experience. Others will chime in.

Your thoughts on stroker block build

One thought in considering cost. The magnum head adds expense unless you stay with factory rockers. One expert says they are good to .525 lift. I planned to go that way but did not like how much contact angle this produced on the valve stem. Wound up buying Harland Sharp adjustable roller...

    Project Frog Princess

I've got the book listing all the ratios. Everyone seems to like the functionality. I'm about to address it's only real weakness putting steel bushings in the aluminum case for the countershaft. The OD from a car is harder to come by and tends to be spendy. I got this cheap and it's in perfect...

    408 Cam on the way

Been off the forum for a bit working on my daughter's house so she can sell it. Hot market she had offers above asking before we were done. Just got Harland Sharp roller rockers to solve issues I was having with the stock valve train. I'll be posting on my build thread listed below.

    408 Cam on the way

At one time I contemplated a big block. I love the low RPM torque. Cramming one in to a tight space did not appeal, so I decided to do a very cost effective "junkyard 360" which upgrades heads, intake carb and cam, leaving the shortblock untouched. I still think that's a good proven pathway. It...

This is a note to myself regarding my transmission modifications: "You will need to machine the retainer on the trans to 4.805” Bore the bell to 4.807”. Otherwise you will machine away the tapped holes for the clutch fork pivot to mount." Advice from Brewers. More to come on this later.

No pedestals in the 60s right? I think you are referring to the LA style shaft rockers.

    Rocker arms for 408 build

That's some interesting stuff. I'm having trouble understanding how stock rockers are used with a non-stock fulcrum and poly locks. That had been my understanding. When I looked at what was happening with .515 lift I did not like the look. With that and my .020 variability in valve height I...

    Rocker arms for 408 build

Thanks Rob. Read all that a while back, been in contact with Mike. No answers to be had for Magnum heads. I spoke to PRW today, they minimize any concern about weakness without a girdle with my setup at about 300 lb open. Also found they likely to not fit under standard valve covers. I have seen...

    Rocker arms for 408 build

Reviving this for opinions. I was planning to use stock rockers but just not liking how things look. With a .515 lift cam the rocker tip sits with more angle than I like with the valves closed. With shimming up the pedestal I get too much angle with valves open. What I mean by this is the rocker...
