It has to be a dead empty system. Don't go mixing refrigerants. There are conversion valves for sale as r1234yf take a different hook up. NOW.... converting is no way endorsed by any OEM or EPA BUT does it work... yes.

Where are you getting that r1234yf (idk where you're getting the c from ether) operates at a "much higher pressure"? It is true that r1234yf is more flammable than r134a.

Have you ever heard of google? Prob 100+ threads on this subject on this site alone. Loads doing it, you will have to move your spring perches inboard as well so that mean welding. Not an issue for most but is for others.

Yeah 134A hasnt been outlawed to purchase but I think they passed a law where new cars have to use the 1234y stuff moving forward. Ether way time to stock up on 134 stuff if you havent done so...

Which is why if your system happens to get a leak you just convert it to 134A and call it a day.

This is my set up on my 71. Oil on the left, Trans on the right, and Power steering below. Used rivnuts to give it some stand off from the core support. Bracket holding the oil and trans is off the shelf from Derale and I powder coated it Hydo Blue to match the car.

How they are mounted now i’d think they are only able to pull air from where they are mounted on the rad vs if they were mounted on the shroud they can pull from that whole air volume. So right now the shroud is more or less just acting like an insulation box forcing the area behind the rad, but...
