I've got an Ebay 26in aluminium radiator on a 12:1 solid roller-cammed 273 and it never gets hot with a plastic flexilite fan. I drive it regularly in heavy weekend traffic and 20 min road race sessions on the track in hot Australian conditions. I know of a few Aussies that swear by this radiator.

My Barracuda is set-up for road racing. I could be fun swapping out my big torsion bars and soften up the front shocks etc for a trip to the drags :). The 273 in it now is basically a race motor (over 400hp). Its running a solid roller, EQ Magnum heads 12.1 comp. It doesn't stop me driving on...

In the 90's and while I was building my race motor (360), I ran my dead stock 318, 2 barrel 904 with 3.23's in an Aussie a-body Valiant. it ran a 16.8 We put a 600 Holley on it and a street torker or something and it ran a 15.2 with no other changes. My current 273 should run 12's..

Thanks for the kind words every one. It was one of those projects that I had built in my head 20 years ago and it's nice to see it come to life. There was no mods to the block for valve clearance as far as I know, the EQ 318 heads are not huge by 360/408 specs, they do flow well though...

There's too many variables to generalise.. On a side note - The Ferrari 458 has 14:1 comp. The GT3 Porsche is 12.9:1.
