    Ol' Blue's magnum swap

Funny thing.... I bought the same distributor and wires on my 87 dakota that I put a 5.9 magnum in... If you dont mind me asking, what is your opinion on the HEI distributor? Mine came with a bad vacuum advance. Got it replaced. No big deal. But it seems that the mechanical advance is too slow...

    Voltage Regulator

The 87 dakota used the standard 70? and up mopar regulator mounted on the firewall. Basically I am using the engine and front accessories from the 2000 ram. But have a carb, and a HEI ignition. So no computer with a built in regulator. Just using the 2000 alt. and the 87 regulator. Thanks

    Voltage Regulator

Today at work, I was thinking about the connector at the voltage regulator. Ill take it apart and clean it. I can swap batteries as well. I agree, dont want to just throw parts at it..... But I think one of the local auto parts stores can test regulators off the truck. Before I do anything...

    Voltage Regulator

OK, measuring from the blue to the pos. terminal, (engine off, switch on) read .33 volts Measuring from the voltage regulator case to the neg. terminal I got .01 volts at idle. Turned on everything I could and got .09 volts. Tomorrrow, I am going to take the ground strap (engine to firewall)...

    Voltage Regulator

I have a 87 dakota, that I put a 2000 dodge ram 5.9 engine in. The trucks voltage regulator had been replaced several years ago, with a Standard VR125. I am not for sure which alternator I have. Looking online at rockauto, they show 117 or 136 amp. Cant find any numbers on the one I have...

    Holley 670 street advenger question

I have a used 670 street advenger carb. On the bottom there are 2 3/8 ports. One is marked for power brake booster, and it goes on the secondary side. The other goes to PVC valve and its on the primary side. Can these be reversed? It would make for a shorter hose if I could. Thanks for...

    Which compressor head

I used the harbor freight compressor as well. 3? Years on a 80 gal tank..... Two points with it. 1. Follow their break in procedure. Seemed to me most complaints were from people who didn't. 2. Get extra oil. I think it was about 3 QTS to fill.....

Dumb Azz Question Of The Day

The 4.7 version will bolt up to a 87-3.9 however there are some differences. The flywheel cover has a different bolt pattern, and if its 4wd, the (plates?) that tie the engine block, differential, and transmission together have to be modified for the different bolt pattern on the bottom of the...

    1987 Dodge Dakota 5.9 swap with a NV3500

Hey Rob You probably already know this, but there is a site that shows all of the unique parts that were only used on the Shelby. From memory I believe the cross member was different and moved the engine back..... On another site a member put a 5.2 with serpentine in a 89 and it cleared the...

I know this is a old post, but just wanted to add a couple pictures for future readers.... This is setting the engine in. Here you can see the spal fans that are sandwiched between the radiator and condenser No radiator in place yet, but an idea of clearance.

    Intake manifold torque

Not in my opinion they are not. The only TTY bolts I ever messed with was on a GM. You would tighten to a set LB torque, then turn an addition degree setting. These start out in in lbs. but end at 12 ft. lbs. I agree on over torque. Im going back at 12 lbs. (same as before) but Im adding the...

    Intake manifold torque

Honestly, I dont see how 12ft lbs could stretch a 5/16 bolt of any grade, let alone a grade 5. As far as I can tell, Aluminum is the only available intake for a magnun bolt pattern.... I agree, DionR is on the money, same as FSM Never really though about sealer for the bolts. Thanks for your post.

    Intake manifold torque

MoparLeo, could you tell me where you are getting this information? The reason I ask, is that it seems to be in direct contradiction to the FSM and several post from this forum. Not saying you are wrong, but would like to know where you are sourcing the information. To answer your comments...

    Intake manifold torque

Thanks to everyone for their input. But just to clarify a few things. 1. Engine is still on the stand.... Has never even had the carb mounted yet. 2. Gaskets were in a engine tech kit. But seemed to be a good quality. 3. I torqued per 2000 FSM which is in steps, but 72in lbs, then 12 ft lbs...

    Intake manifold torque

About a month ago, I put the intake (edelbrock 7577) on my motor. Yesterday, I noticed that some of the intake bolts were not tight... I had tightened them per the FSM for 2000 dodge. With the last torque being 12ft lbs. The only reason I can see it would happen is gasket shrinkage. The bolts...

    Intake manifold gasket sealer?

I assembled my 5.9 magnum with the intake gaskets dry. I used form a gasket on the ends and across the China wall. Should I have used any sealer on the gasket itself or is dry OK? The motor is still on the engine stand...... So now would be better then latter. Fwiw I have the 7577 edelbrock...
