    Slant six fuel pump recommendation?

I'll be purchasing a new fuel pump for my 1974 Duster 225 slant six engine. The FSM says that the correct one for my car is a Carter MS-4844S. The Carter website no longer has this pump, but says to use a Carter M60577 (see photo from Carter website). If I go to NAPA, will I just be buying a...

Bob's Component Resto Part 36: Dusty gets a new motor, chapter one.

Hello MoBros and MoSis': I trust you've all been sleeping well since the most recent sleep inducing chapter of my component resto articles. Just when you thought you were rid of me, I'm back at it again with the biggest project of this series - a new engine for Dusty. But first a little...

Wo sells the two heater hose fittings in my cylinder head?

So I could use the Dorman 56358 for the bypass hose fitting on the underside of the cylinder head, right?

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

Thanks. I saw that number there but assumed that it was a manufacturer's code number.

Rods in my Head, Part 2

Yeah, likely every slant six head out there. I've never seen a 225 cylinder head without them still inside.

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

Thanks, townsend. Do you have the model number of the 3870902 Holley 1945 carb?

Rods in my Head, Part 2

Here's a photo of the other piece of casting rod pulled from my cylinder head. So there were two pieces drifting around in there since November 29, 1973 the day the head was cast. There was none in the engine block casting. So for those of you who might be looking for this stuff in your head, be...

Rods in my Head, Part 2

Just started the rebuild job on my 1974 Duster slant six and found this. If you recall, several years ago I asked if anyone had ever seen these funny looking rods in their engine castings. Apparently, they are part of the sand casting process and are not a part of the engine itself. Mother Mopar...

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

So what would be the harm if I simply capped the charcoal canister nipple where the canister-to-carb line goes? If I end up using the 902 carb (the NOS one that doesn't have an attachment for the vapor return system) that would effectively isolate the charcoal canister from the engine and...

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

Thanks, townsend. Is this carb (3870902) also a Holley carb? If so, do you know the Holley model number? Thank you!

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

Thanks for the reply, Don. Here's where I'm at. In the first photo below, there is a filled in hole that looks like a dimple between the two screw holes on the left side of the carb. On my Holley 1945, there is a metal nipple in this spot, with a rubber vacuum hose attached to the nipple which...

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

Thanks, Dan. That sounds like great advice. My difficulty in using the 902 carb from the 75-77 model year is that it appears to not be a direct "plug and play" unit. For example, there are several more vacuum ports on the Holley 1945 than on the 902 unit. So I don't know what vacuum ports go...

So what's the deal? Which carb is the right one?

MoBros and MoSis': I'm rebuilding the slant six engine in my October of 1973 build date 1974 Duster 225 auto federal emissions non-a/c car. I have two carbs and am not sure which one is correct for my car. I've heard that both are correct, but I'm not sure and I could use your advice. The first...

Wo sells the two heater hose fittings in my cylinder head?

Hi All: I'll be soon rebuilding the cylinder head in my 1974 Duster slant six engine. The head is the stock, correct head with no modifications. I will at that time be replacing the two coolant fittings in the head: The first is the 1/2" fitting screwed into the top of the head that goes to the...

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

Yeah, it's pretty bad. You saw the photos of the leak down test on the actual gauges. And yes, the testing was done correctly by a very experienced shop that builds racing engines.

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

Yeah, rebuilding the spare engine, then installing it when finished is looking like the best option right now. Yes, the valves were closed with the piston at TDC when the checks were made. Air was escaping around the pistons into the block.

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

Yeah, I was pretty amazed when I saw the leak down results. Remember, this is not the original engine from the factory. It is a parts store engine installed in 1988 at a repair shop in Portland OR. That's all I know about it. I can't attest to the quality of the rebuild job prior to putting it...

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

Okay guys. As promised, here's the data on my sick engine. The first six photos are the results of the leak down test on cylinders one through six. As you can see, several of the cylinders are way down from the 100 psi that was pumped in initially. The final photo is the compression values from...

MoBros and MoSis': I just got back from a visit to my very favorite junkyard in Wilmar MN where I scored some nice vintage parts for my patina slant six engine that I'm building. What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

Not yet, but I think I'm narrowing it down to an exhaust leak and perhaps an exhaust valve problem. My buddy is going to contact me in the next week or so and we'll do a compression and leak down test at his very well equipped garage. Again, thanks everyone for the excellent suggestions. Once I...

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

It has power brakes. The master cylinder is a new aluminum one from Dr. Diff and works great. The vacuum booster was rebuilt and seems to work perfectly. All vacuum hoses are new.
