    Piston clearance

And what these guys said above. The above mention of the cometic gasket is what I have done several times. There really is t a need to get super close but keep the quench under .050. It’ll be fine. Setting the quench super close is starting to gamble on everything else being great. That’s why...

    Piston clearance

Funny you’d mention that lead69, I had the original iron j heads on it up until now. I had polished, ported and gasket matched them. I’ve never used aluminum heads until now due to the cost but I had been using cosmetics with the iron heads. That being said I knew I couldn’t use them with the...

    Piston clearance

Well ok, I checked piston height the first time roughly with a straight edge and feeler gauge that’s where I got my original numbers. I just checked it again with a dial indicator and deck height bridge and I came up with .025 in center of piston and .038 on upper edge at valve reliefs when I...

    Piston clearance

I’ve got a set of edelbrock 63cc heads that I want to put on my 340, the pistons sticks up .020 I’m using felpro head gasket .057 thick which leaves.037 before compressed height. Edelbrock says .035 clearance should be maintained at...

    If only RemFlex was SlimFlex

yep, fergot that, thanks..... and for what it's worth,,,,, removing studs is not hard, and chance of breaking one is minimal, less chance than screwing a nut onto a stud half way and then stripping it. Then you will be changing out studs.... Just saying

    what is the difference

I never take it over 6500, it starts to fall at around 5000, 1st and 2nd gear there is no problem. once into 3rd at around 5k it starts to miss and stumble. Could it be the coil? it's happened to me once before. I've tried jetting up and down from where it started with no change. and to the...

    what is the difference

It's running with factory fuel line, I believe it was or is a holley 85 gph mech pump. Jets, I can't remember off the top of my head, I'll get those numbers tomorrow. The carb is a quick fuel 650. It ran great in the cooler weather but I ran the other day in 80 plus temp and it just fell over...

    what is the difference

Well I'm learning for sure. I'm running mechanical but I'm also running really close to stock. When it runs lean it'll pop on the big end, but when it just runs out of fuel it'll stumble like someone's shutting the fuel off
  16. racyroy1

    what is the difference

To all of you experienced racers can you tell me what is, or is there a differnce between running lean and just plain running out/or low of fuel at the big end of the track. Thanks for any and all responces Racy

I'm not getting sucked into this conversation I'm just stating the obvious. Whether it's the pinion angle, horsepower or bad springs, that conversation is being carried on by others. I hope a cause can be found. I'll be hanging out and watching.:happy1:

    disassembly of shifter

crazy, the outside knob is loose from the shaft, the black push button is loose from the outside knob, the whole assembly moves up and down inside the shifter shaft, I've pulled like crazy and cannot get it to separate. the set screw is completely removed.

    disassembly of shifter

your saying kinda what i'm thinking, and with what your saying i'm starting to believe that it's frozen on the cable. I say this because the pawl that keeps it in gear is unscrewing and falling out. I hope you understand what i'm talking about.
