727 big block trans converter tighten/untighten tricks

Thanks for all the help we lifted engine out last night. I need to research and learn more about what people are doing when installing/removing BB with a slant six K frame and Schumacher engine mount conversion kit in an A body. I had a little stud tightness issue on the way out of drivers side...

727 big block trans converter tighten/untighten tricks

Done the rubber hammer on wrench many times.. I did try access thru starter hole but I have a shim plate? for starter in there and it didn't want to slide out especially with one end over stud. I did mark the flex plate but thanks for the reminder. I hear ya on the calibrated right arm I have...

727 big block trans converter tighten/untighten tricks

Great idea. What do you use for a torque wrench setup ? I can only see using a torque wrench on a long extension with a flexible socket perhaps fitting. There is not much room down there between bolt head and oil pan for a standard 3/4 socket and rachet setup.

727 big block trans converter tighten/untighten tricks

Thanks for the replies. I could have used the wife or someone to hold crankshaft bolt but that would not likely work on reinstall due to crank direction may loosen crank bolt when tightening torque converter bolts and I was by myself. I didn't see anyway to jamb wood in there but I did find...

727 big block trans converter tighten/untighten tricks

Hello, working on 68 dart First time pulling out a 383 engine from the top with a 727 engine left in car. I searched thru all the posts but didn't see any tricks or methods on how to break free torque converter bolts by yourself as the engine spins. I suspect I could hold a socket on crank and...

Thanks for the pictures. That’s the stage we are at currently as well.

rear 1/4 glass and regulator removal

Thanks Glad to hear that’s how it’s done. Yes, does look super tricky to put back together as it was confusing enough just on the bench with two side access!

rear 1/4 glass and regulator removal

Hello, I have read thru the posts here, utube and the how to section has a nice article Quarter window Regulator installation. Also found this write up. Side Glass, Regulators, and Window Alignment In the how to section the glass has been removed from window mount. The motor trend article...

68 dart fiberglass AAR hood pin location

Update. Cancelled loc style washers from Steven’s performance as we found some locally and mounted hinge assembly back on with lighter duty springs from board member atomicdog. His springs came nicely painted and we were told to wrap the coil with one coil turn of tension. We ended up just doing...

68 dart fiberglass AAR hood pin location

Well this was interesting. My son removed the drivers side hinge assembly and the inner spring slot is wide open and the spring held in by washer style stop nut/retainer clip. Very confusing and I don't know if the retainer clips I ordered from Stevens performance are for mounting hinge...

68 dart fiberglass AAR hood pin location

Yes, that's definitely the plan. Had to order from Stephens performance the push nut washer style that go over the 1/2" studs as we destroyed the old ones removing the hinges so we could remove the factory coil type springs. Ordered lighter duty springs from board member atomicdog. We got...

68 dart fiberglass AAR hood pin location

Hello We picked up a used never been painted 6 -pak hood like new condition but someone had previously drilled hood for pins. Why they drilled hood I’m not sure as where you attach the hinges still had a rivet in it I believe from the factory for shipping to keep metal insert from moving. I...

    1968 Dodge dart window issue.

A cupped bolt, never heard of that. The metal washer around the bolt which seems integral is curved so that makes sense. Any idea the size you ordered and length?

    1968 Dodge dart window issue.

Himmm, Nice, assortment appreciate the pictures . That 2nd picture I circled in red might be what I'm after but I have never taken one out so I don't know what the bolt and felt/rubber washer are supposed to look like. I guess I could pull out my good one from the other window to know for sure.

    1968 Dodge dart window issue.

Does anyone know where we can get this bolt that snapped circled in above pictures and special felt washer. I’m assuming it’s a specially shaped bolt but perhaps not? Thanks Greg

68 dart with running 383 auto - advice to build another motor

Thank you I have seen several rebuilt 383 blocks with flat top pistons aftermarket for sale but no valve notches. Are people using this piston because they’re basically doing a stock rebuild? I don’t understand why they wouldn’t reuse the original pistons if good. My understanding with the...

68 dart with running 383 auto - advice to build another motor

That’s great to hear about the kB hypers. Reviewing heads I see the 440 source comes with bigger valves than the iron. Can I get away with freshening up some 452 used off a running 440 (I can buy a pair for 200.00) heads to run the 509 cam or am I just wasting money not going aluminum from the...

68 dart with running 383 auto - advice to build another motor

Thanks for the reply, What do people generally use for off the shelf pistons? I see KB forged or hypereutectic pistons ? Not sure which iron heads I should pursue is why I was looking for some feedback as I have 3 different sets locally for sale or perhaps for my needs it doesn't matter so much.

68 dart with running 383 auto - advice to build another motor

Hello, Father son project in the works. This is a running driving car now 383, 3000 stall so we are told, 391 rear gears mini tubbed. I know this is a loaded question with lots of directions but could we gather parts to build something around a 509 purple shaft cam or wilder idle on pump gas...

    Lost spark suspect coil

Yes, I got caught. Funny i tried to hot wire the coil for a few seconds with pos and negative batt power separate leads from wiring harness and using a test light one end grounded and using the probe in the coil tower removing the neg lead of coil expecting a spark and it didn’t so I thought...

    Lost spark suspect coil

Parts came today and the coil leaked out it’s oil in the box it came in. Further inspection of ignition ground revealed a surprise. Previous owner didn’t scratch any paint away on firewall and the bottom screw mount was a washer/bolt crudely trapping the painted firewall sheet metal. Not to...
