    Hydraulic Lifter Preload.

I have been working on setting up my valve train getting ready to degree the cam in. I checked and I am .040-.044 lifter preload on the flat tappet hydraulic. Running standard non adjustable magnum rockers. Should I be wanting more preload I am thinking .040 should be ok. I am using a...

    What oil pump to use.

Received my oil pump today made in USA on outside of the box and pump itself marked USA, will look it over and compare it to another M72 I have had on the shelf for quite a while, so far it looks legit but I am not ready to say for sure. Though I might go to Orilley and maybe compare them side...

    What oil pump to use.

If it's a counterfeit unit I will take appropriate action with Amazon and also contact Melling with the seller information, will know tomorrow. The only reason to buy from Amazon is to get free shipping price is pretty much same as Summitt or Rock Auto. It was considerably more for the Melling...

    What oil pump to use.

Ordered a standard melling pump from Amazon will see where it's made and see if it's a knock off and report back.

    What oil pump to use.

Amazon showed the Melling pump as made in China, might be a knock off for all I know. I doubt I need the high volume pump with standard bearings and clearances, the lifter bores were tight on this block also. My main reason for not using high volume would be to eliminate excess heat build up...

    What oil pump to use.

it looks like I will need a new oil pump for my build, the one I had in a box was obviously used and I don't remember where it came from. I was going to run standard volume Melling M72 with high pressure spring as I am running stock clearances and will see some RPM on occasion. Build is pretty...

    73 AC clutch wiring

The AC was removed from my car and I am updating with modern components. Where does the clutch wire come out of the wiring harness? I know I have the original harness but it was re-taped and I am wondering if maybe they cut the plug off and just taped over the wire.

What cam to use in a 318

Thanks for all the input we're a bit off rails but that's ok. Lots of cam recommendations from different perspectives. After looking at my intake and considering the heads I am going t upgrade my exhaust and most likely go with the 272 .455 [email protected] single pattern grind. with the magnum head...

What cam to use in a 318

Pistons are Sealed Power H814CP they are 1.755 compression height will get you to about .050 below deck depending on your block. Most replacements are 1.720. I had a minimum cut on the deck just to get a clean surface and the rest of the compression comes from the magnum heads. I am assuming...

What cam to use in a 318

Someone asked how you get to 9.2 compression, .030 overbore, magnum heads, and you can use 318 magnum pistons that have a taller compression height in a LA motor they work fine, as 5.2 and LA engines have basically the same rod You would want to re-balance but that's always a good idea when...

What cam to use in a 318

I think I am going to go with Oregon cams, we discussed a few different options including re-grinding my vintage 318 cam that is good shape and made of better material. I like the idea of something not mass produced from who knows where.

What cam to use in a 318

Well I am not a big comp fan either I have heard of lots of problems with them, although to be fair it's probably the lifters that cause most problems these days. A lot of this stuff is just not made of good material and is not sufficiently hardened. I have though about going roller but the cost...

What cam to use in a 318

I have the Hughes springs and retainers on the magnum heads with .510 lift the seals just clear so I wanted to stay a little less then that, that's why I was thinking around .500 max . My current 318 runs a factory 340 automatic cam which is 210 & 220 @.050 runs good but I doubt the compression...

What cam to use in a 318

I haven't heard 3/4 race for a while. I had thought of running something like the 340 manual cam but comp has similar stuff at .050 duration but shorter overall duration in their dual energy series. Another consideration would be I would like to be able to not have to run premium gas so perhaps...

What cam to use in a 318

By the specs I bet that would be a good runner probably too much lift for my 1.6 rockers without cutting the guides down.
