Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

matthon, Those are the rotors I bought and turned on the lathe (post #65) They are machined hats.

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

Mattax, Thanks for the pictures, and the link to your 2020 post listing rotor vendors, very comprehensive. I wonder if any of the listed rotors are still available. These recent posts have been very enlightening. I went though some old parts I've got and came up with a pair of correct, but...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

Matthon, Thank you, a picture is worth a thousand words. It seems to me we should be seeking out rough cast hat rotors, 'cause they're easier to modify. The sad part is, I haven't come across any new for sale.

Mattax, Thanks for the thoughtful response. You make a good case about the possibility of drilled rotors being more vulnerable to failure than a solid rotor that's had the hat slimmed down. I have no plans on racing this car, but do plan on spirited driving on twisty roads up Mt Diablo and in...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

I think we're talking about two different rotor hats, finished (machined) or rough cast. I've been working with machined hats. I could see grinding a rough casting hat using a flap grinder, take it down 'til smooth and even around hat, makes sense. Don't see doing that with a machined hat.

Let me get this straight. When you say "hit it with a grinder", what does that really mean? Are you turning the rotor while you grind away with a hand held grinder? How do you maintain consistency that way? Sorry, but it sounds sloppy to me.

Could it be possible there is more than one seal that could be used in the rebuilding of these calipers? Maybe a seal that isn't so fat?

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

"Online" could literally mean anywhere. What website did you buy them from? When? Did you actually install them on an A body factory KH setup? Did you check to see if the piston seals rubbed the hat once the calipers were bolted down?

I thought about doing that, but my caliper tip was rubbing too. It was easier cutting the whole width of the hat. I did consider cutting grooves but got concerned about creating weak spots that could contribute to a crack. The Centric rotor I used has a machined hat, it wasn't a rough casting

Where did you get them? Have you actually installed them and confirmed they don't rub? I have a set of Bendix rotors here from Rock Auto I bought in 2020 and they rub the seals and the tip of the rotor.

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

A follow-up on this thread. So...I purchased expensive ( $75 and $120 each) rotors from two additional vendors that both claimed to have the proper rotors for early A bodies and yes, they are "guaranteed to fit". Neither set fit, they rubbed the seals, and were returned. Summit carries the...

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

That would be 66Dvert, Here's a link to a conversation I had with him in 2020. Plastic interior pieces in early Barracudas I haven't heard anything lately from him. I probably will attempt fixing the rear under window pieces by supergluing the broken parts to a thin piece of styrene .010" or...

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

Interesting, in '65, they only offered red, blue, black and gold interior colors, but in '66 they added more interior color combinations including white. So in this case, they matched the trunk latch cover to the carpet and dash color.

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

I notice the plastic latch cover is gold in the attached picture, was the interior gold from the factory as well?

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

My car will be painted soon, so I really need to pin down the trunk colors. As mentioned earlier, my car came from the factory gold exterior over gold interior (TRM code=P4Y) I am keeping the gold exterior but the interior will be black instead of gold. So, here is what I have gathered about...

No more ethanol free gas in Canada?

I can only buy gas with ethanol, 10%, nothing else is available. My Barracuda isn't finished yet, but for my '61 300G 413, I've been adding TC-W3 marine 2 stroke oil every fill up for at least 10 years, and the engine has never ran better.. The formula is 1 oz./5 gallons gas. My 300G can sit...

What was the original color of your interior?

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

Clifftt, Yes, the area under the vent flap would be body color. What about when the plywood security panel is brought down, is the painted area that the panel rests against, with the rubber bumpers, is it interior or body color? I'm assuming your interior has a different color than the body.

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

So...as long as I have this thread started, I'd like input on a question my painter has, a small detail, but here goes. For '65 Barracudas, when the security panel is dropped to the trunk floor, is the area that was covered by the panel body color or interior color? In other words, if you are...

    ‘65 4 Speed Hump Install

Here's pictures of my steel factory hump install in my '65 Barracuda FS. Note the right flap adds height for clearance of the top right corner of the 4 speed. There was no engine in the body, so I bolted the transmission/bellhousing assembly to the rear mount and supported the bellhousing...

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

Well, without the caps you'd have a path for air flow through the flaps. Did you remove the caps? Does it look like there were caps at some point? Just trying to solve the early Barracuda ventilation mystery. I'm starting to think that maybe air flow was too much of a good thing with the...

Clifftt: Does your '65 have the two rubber flaps over the exhaust rectangles at the top of the trunk opening?

TXOval, The vent slot is for the defogger. Are the round holes open or capped off?

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

That's an early car, like mine. Four big rectangular vents, I spent several hours sanding that area yesterday, getting it ready for black paint. Still a mystery to me why the later cars had this all blocked off.

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

Definitely, that's how mine will be used. I'm going to conceal one on the other side too.

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

I'm confused too. I know about the vent opening in the metal trim piece above the optional rear window defogger. I thought that was there to pull air through to circulate air across the rear window, but not exhaust it. The exhaust would have to come out through the rubber flaps, not go into...

'65 Barracuda Interior moldings under rear window

I found this picture (not my car) of the later style; that center support definitely changed. Why the plugs? Where's the flow through? Were the long vents overpowering or something? Did these cars still have rubber flaps at the top of the trunk opening? How does the air escape? A Barracuda...
