How I fixed my 66 Cuda tach

Hello, Just wanted to share the debug steps that brought my tach back to life. This is all stuff I learned from other FABO members, but just to summarize... 1. Apply a 1.5V battery across the plus and minus terminals. The tach needle should go to roughly 2000 rpm. Mine did not. 2. Use a...

How to fix 66 Cuda Tach?

I’m working on a 66 Cuda, where the tach sending unit is remote, behind the drivers kick panel. I started my debug adventure with a new RTE sending unit. The sending unit works great, it’s output voltage increases with engine RPM, but the tach is still dead. So now I removed the tach from the...

How to disable voltage limiter inside gas gauge?

Hello Friends, I have attached a picture of the back of a 66 Barracuda gas gauge. The voltage limiter that produces 5V for all the other gauges should live inside the gas gauge. I wish to disable or remove the old voltage limiter and instead use a modern 5V solid state regulator. Another FABO...

The thing that the water pump bolts onto

Hey Guys, Hope you’ll entertain a rookie question: On my 273, what is the name for the housing that the water pump bolts onto? Not the “water pump housing”. Its a hunk of metal between the engine block and the water pump housing. Mine seems to be weeping antifreeze.. Thanks, Kevin

Can painted carb mounting surface cause a vacuum leak?

Hey Guys, Please pardon the rookie question. Can paint on the carb mounting surface of the intake manifold cause a vacuum leak? Should this surface just be bare metal? Thanks, Kevin

    273 Commando smokes terribly

Hey Guys, I bought a 66 Cuda that had been sitting since 1991. I installed a new fuel pump, Edelbrock carb, distributor, spark plugs, and gas tank. She started up just great and idled with 40 lbs of oil pressure, but the engine smoke was insane! Smoke billowed out of the tailpipe, and lots of...

How to install 66 Barracuda tail lights?

Hey Guys, I bought a vandalized 66 Cuda with no tail light housing. I then went to EBay and bought 66 Cuda tail light housings (well, that’s what the ad said) My wiring harness has three bulbs, but this housing has only two mounting holes for bulbs. Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise...

How to remove 1966 manual brake pushrod

Hey Guys, I’m replacing the master cylinder on my 66 Barracuda, and replacing it with a dual master cylinder from a 1967. It seems that the pushrod is stuck to the rear piston of the old master cylinder. Any tips for freeing the pushrod from that old piston? Thanks, Kevin

    66 Barracuda Ignition switch bezel

I bought this 66 Barracuda with just a bare hole for the ignition. I know that I need an ignition switch and key cylinder, which seem to be readily available. But I assume that I also need some type of bezel with a threaded nut to hold the switch in place. I don’t see a 1966 Barracuda bezel in...

    Are 273 distributors different?

Hello, I purchased two aftermarket distributors for my 273, but both wound up being identical, just sold by a different company. These ready to run distributors are sold by Assault racing and also by A-team Performance. At $50, they are much cheaper than other aftermarket units, but they don’t...

    Assault distributor won’t fit my 1966 273

Hey Guys I bought the ready to run electronic distributor from Assault Racing. It doesn’t want to drop into the engine correctly. The end of the shaft is a little wider and a lot longer than my stock distributor. Has anyone heard of this problem? Thanks!

Will these hubcaps fit my 1966 Formula S?

Hello, My 14” Formula S wheels have these really long lug nuts. Will the hubcaps shown in the picture fit? Or will my lug nuts interfere? I know they aren’t correct for Formula S, but they are much cheaper. (Hope you can see the photo. Had a little trouble understanding how to upload pictures)

Will Formula S center caps stay on with no outer ring?

Hello, I just got a 1966 Barracuda Formula S. It has bare 14 inch wheels with no hubcaps or wheel covers. It also has these really long lug nuts. I see many 1966 era center caps on EBay, but no outer ring. Is the center cap held on by the lug nuts, or do I need the outer ring to hold the...

1966 Barracuda with factory disk: dual master conversion

Hey Guys, I have a 66 Formula S that already has factory disk brakes. I would like to upgrade my master cylinder to dual chamber. My question is what distribution port to use? The car already has a factory proportioning valve for the rear drums, so I just need a 5-port distribution block. My...
