Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

It's not around anymore, but we moved up here from Flowery Branch about three years ago, so I'm not familiar with much of the history. I did ask about it in a Farcebook group, so we'll see what they have to say.

    Advice on buying junkyard engines?

I'd be interested in seeing your run stand setup. I also see you're in GA. Which area? I'm near Clarkesville.

VGE Remanufactured Long Lock Crate Engines DD06 - $2012.99 - "Not Available At This Time. This product cannot be ordered at this time. Future availability is unknown. We apologize for the inconvenience." Any of the affordable engines are not available. And they also have a $370 to $620 core...

What do you mean by 'first run' engines. Engine that came in the vehicle?

    Advice on buying junkyard engines?

Head gasket went at somewhere around 164K miles. I had lent it to a friend, and she's not a car person. She went out to start it and it started clanking, then white smoke. She said she smelled "a sweet smell" a couple days before, which was obviously coolant going through the exhaust. I wasn't...

    Advice on buying junkyard engines?

I've never bought a junkyard engine before. I actually need two engines, a 5.9L Magnum that will go in my '71 Dart, and a 4.2L V6 for a '97 Ford F-150 that blew up. While I expect to do a little freshening up on one, I don't want to need to do a full valve job, new rings and bearings, line...

Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

Definitely why I wanted opinions of people who've done it. I put long tube headers on my C10 with a straight 6, but there's room enough to take a nap in the engine compartment. And I've helped put headers on a couple of friends Chebbies, one of which was a PITA. But never in an A-body, and I'd...

Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

Thanks. Yah, I have a load leveler, so I'm good there. Also air over hydraulic on the hoist :) Makes life a lot easier. Now if only they'd come with a release valve that had more than the "hold engine in place" and "drop engine on floor" positions...

Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

Thanks, good info. I'll be doing this on the ground. This has what I think is the original 6 cylinder radiator, and I'll replace it with a Cold Case or something. Will having the radiator out of the way give the clearance I'd need? Are you recommending pulling the trans first and then the...

Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

I'm not adverse to that, but I thought the long tube ones were a nightmare to get installed.

Installing headers -- While engine pulled or after re-installed?

I'm going to pull the 5.9L Magnum in my '67 Barracuda to replace a leaking freeze plug and some other work. I'd like to replace the stock manifolds with headers, probably TTI shorties unless someone tells me why I shouldn't. It is a 4-speed car, and at the moment it has slant-6 torsion bars...

    '67 Barracuda bucket seat mounting

My '67 Barracuda has bucket seats, and I'd like to find some replacement hardware for them. Both seats are missing a stud on each. One thing I'm not clear on is if the seat tracks are supposed to bolt directly to the floor or if there's a spacer that goes in there. I've seen replacement bolt...

    Transmission crossmember bolt sizes?

OK, that explains it then. The only reason I can imagine they did that was to make sure the bolts were inserted the correct direction. I don't know for sure which way they're supposed to go in, but the bolt heads should be closer to the rear, threads towards the engine?

    Transmission crossmember bolt sizes?

I guess I'll just drill them out. It's odd that one side takes a 1/2" prefectly, and the other side is just a hair too small to pass the threads.

    Transmission crossmember bolt sizes?

Hmm, curious. The holes in one side of the crossmember are 1/2", as are the holes and bracing tubes in the frame. It's the holes in the other side of the crossmember that are a little smaller.

    Transmission crossmember bolt sizes?

I'm finally back working on my butchered '67 Barracuda. Originally a slant-6/904 car, a previous owner put a 360 and A833 trans in, but never finished the job (it's also got a GM 8.2 rearend, Dog knows why). The crossmember the PO put in is some kind of welded up hack job, and I was unable to...

    '65 A-body 8 3/4" Sure-Grip 4.10 in a '67 Barracuda?

I have a chance to pick up a full 8 3/4" axle with a 4.10 Sure-Grip. I'm told it's from a '65 A-body (although not sure which one), and it'd be going in my '67 Barracuda that's been 360 Magnum/A883 swapped and molested with a GM 8.2 rear end by the previous owner. Is there any reason this...

Trying to identify A833 & shifter models

I... don't know? I'm not wise enough in the ways A833s to know. Would a better picture of some area help?

Trying to identify A833 & shifter models

Yeah. No idea why the shifter lever is that way, unless it broke, or they wanted it positioned differently. As for the crossmember, I suspect that was made rather than buy a manufactured one, but that's just speculation on my part.

Trying to identify A833 & shifter models

I'm finally back able to work on the '67 Barracuda. This was a slant-6/904 that's been swapped to a 360 Magnum and an A833 trans. I need to find the correct shift linkage for this configuration. It appears I have a Hurst shifter based on the patent numbers, but the model identification that...

Ah, so it's metal and rusty? I wasn't sure if it was overspray on a white plate or something else. Edited post to remove that bit.

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

Possibly. Although when I was hitting the one in Norcross, GA about 5 years ago for parts for my '93 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, I noticed mostly what they had was later model stuff. They also have a really high turnover rate. If it sits too long with no activity or it's been picked clean...

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

I think things have changed at Pull-A-Part. I searched for any Plymouth model between '65 and '76 in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, and came up with 2 pre-1990 vehicles. Technically, the one you mentioned is in Augusta, GA. It backs up to the west side of the river. The east...

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

I'll have to start hunting around. We moved about 45 miles north a couple years ago, and there's a bunch of interesting looking junk yards I haven't been to in this area.

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

Yeah, that's a little sketchier than I realized. I've spent most of my time so far on the top side car fixing a few issues.

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

It's a 10 bolt 8.2. It appears to me to be reasonably well installed, but I'm no expert. Haven't driven it yet, I'm waiting for some shift linkages to arrive.

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

Sri, brain fart. I knew it was 1/4" different from the bolt pattern on the front, which is 4.5". I probably had 4 1/4" stuck in my head because of the 8 1/4". The question is: Can I find an 8 3/4" anything that's within 400 miles of Atlanta and isn't going to cost $1200+?

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

Geez, every time I go to do something, it seems like it turns into a dive down a rabbit hole. While I don't mind spending money, I like to spend it effectively and not wind up with parts I can't use because I don't necessarily know what I'm looking at, or it turns out one of the parts I need is...

Narrowing an 8 1/4" rear end, how is it done?

The biggest negative against this rear end is that it's currently a 5 x 4.25" bolt pattern, and the front is 5 x 4.5" (it has spindles, etc from a '73 with disc brakes). One option is to re-drill the axles, and there is someone local I found that can do it. It being a C-clip axle means there...
