    VIN Rivets

And all the GM cars used the 5 point MOPAR rivets too. NOPE they are also 6 point, so are AMC. I think my 1989 BMW 635 CSI M6 was also a 6 point rivet..... Was not a Manufacture mandated rivet. It was a FEDERAL mandated rivet.

15 inch wheels on early A body pictures

1965 Barracuda. Has LBP all around so 5 on 4 1/2. 15 inch Cop Car Rallys all around. 235/60 15's front and 275/60 15 rear.

Have you ever seen any Dart, Valiant, Demon or Duster with a rear window defroster?

My 1965 Barracuda has a blower motor in the back to blow air on that HUGE glass. No heat, just air. The under dash switch was missing when I rebought the car in 1986 but read "Rear Blower" if I remember. My mom had the dealer install a heater core from a mail order place like JC Whitney and...

    Aluminum slant block

Being an open deck, the top of the cylinders would walk around so the head gaskets were very special. One of the plans were to wind 1/4 inch copper tubing around each cylinder and fill the water jackets with high temp epoxy or block cement, then milled flat. The copper would be into the water...

    Aluminum slant block

Back in 1999 or so, I sold a 1962 225 aluminum engine to a guy from California for $500. He took it down to Doug Dutra's shop. It came out of a 62 Valiant with a 7 1/4 Suregrip 3.51:1 and a 3 on the tree.

    273 dilemma

My son does not have a picture of the 273 wrist pins but has notes of when he weighted them. Full floating without the keepers they are 320 grams each. Not sure how much the keepers weigh. 5.64 POUNDS for all 8 The Light weight ones he got for his 318 were from Manley and are Pressed In and...

    273 dilemma

Mike, did you see and maybe take pictures of the 273 wrist pin compared to the Egge setup? I have searched my garage for my 273 pistons/rods in a box but they may be at my sons house. When my son did the 78-318 build with light weight pistons and wrist pins we weighted all 8 of his new wrist...

    273 dilemma

I know this for sure and have gotten into PI$$ING matches with others that state the factory balance is not too far off. Yes, good enough for a street engine working between 2500 and 5500 RPM. But even if ran above 4500 RPM for long times I think its not good enough.

    removing spider gears 7.25

I had a 1981 Dodge Marida 318 auto that had a 7 1/4 2.20 open. It had C clips. But the 30 or so 1961-74 7.25's I've had the covers off, all were NOT c clip. I've had a few 7.25's with Suregrip, One held up behind a 9.5:1 360 4 bbl 727 auto, 3.23:1 ratio..... Never was stupid enough to try a...

    273 dilemma

Its been said many times before. But if you are reusing the 273's pistons, wrist pins and rods then any Poly 318, or forged 318/340 crank will fit but still should be balanced. It is true that in 1962-63 when they were doing the engineering of the 273 they used the Poly 318 crankshaft and...

    Redressing a controversial subject...

Years ago on a Subaru Legacy forum about the Legacy Touring Wagon's with the H4 2.2 Turbo a few members were turning up the boost by almost twice. They were having issues of the cars just 'Laying Over' when it came up on boost. Over 200 replies from so many "Experts". They tried changing the...

    Redressing a controversial subject...

There are many 'White Papers' out there about coil ignitions and how you match the Coil winding ratios to what system you are using to charge and then discharge the primary windings. I'd bet a MSD 6AL and a 'Fast' brand coil would jump a bigger gap than that Summit 60kv coil. ^^^^THIS!

    My New Garage

Insulating the shed is not really about saving power. It is a creature comfort idea. Even without true AC, the slab floor will help keep the temps down if it does not heat soak. When its 115F out and the shed is a chilly 90F it makes a huge difference. Or like up here in the Seattle area, when...

Skylights or "SolarTube" work well and you can still put R60 insulation in the ceilings.

Find a nice Ramcharger and a wreched D3500 dulley and make a faux dulley Ramcharger using the rear fenders. Modern LED strip lighting or 20-30 LED Can Lights placed strategically is so much better that old flicker Florescent tube. Cost up front is a bit high but will pay for themselves in a...

Magnum vs LA oil filter plate

There is a difference for sure. The LA blocks iron boss sticks out about 0.100" more than the Magnum blocks so the Mag plate will have a gap around the big circle on a LA block. And the answer on the right angle adapter is NO plate!!!
  19. Dave_J

Boy, did I screw the pooch

That adapter plate needs a lot of work. It has 4 SMALL 3/16's holes. Needs 4 more larger holes drilled in between them. Make all 8 holes 3/8 inch.

    Valiants with V8s

Most of the early \6 can be over bored 0.100" to 3.50". Direct Connection had a stroker crank too so 242 CI was do'able. Finding a 3.50" piston may be tough. But still, the biggest bang for the $$$ is to mill the head 0.060" and port it some. As cast the ports are very rough and core shifted so...

    Valiants with V8s

Had a 1965 4 door Dart 270 with the \6 and 3 on the tree, 2.76:1 open rear. Dead stock it got 26 MPG driving 35 miles one way from Auburn WA to Ft Lewis WA. Regular pump gas. Engine mods started with milling 0.060" off the head and pocket ported to remove the garbage. Back cut all the valves...

Is my car a Tag Job? Barracuda Decode...

Fender tag is gone. I had removed the screws a long time ago but my son may have put them back. Not sure. Not to sidetrack this thread but yes I like the L body Rampages and Scamps. The front one has all the Shelby stuff, seats, Tonneu covers clips but the cover was gone when I bought it and...

My VIN is V852548189. Never changed the dash gauges, had a Tach when I drove it in the 1970's before my mom sold it. She sits in the side yard waiting to get redone.

Is my car a Tag Job? Barracuda Decode...

I am going by a 9 year old kids memory of when my mom bought this Barracuda. I just know it was a special order from the local 5 Star Chrysler/Plymouth dealer she worked at. @73 4bbl, Auto trans, 8 3/4 suregrip with 3.91:1, KH 4 piston disks and 10 inch drums in back, 5 leaf springs on both...

Is my car a Tag Job? Barracuda Decode...

I do know that my moms 65 Barracuda was ordered late in 1965. It has the 66 Barracuda dash but had all other 65 date coded parts. Has the V on the back window chrome, not the 66 fish. Vin plate is spot welded but someone put screws in the holes.
