    PS pump rebuild... which kit?

The bearings in the power steering pump are noisy. I'm going to get a reseal kit and try to find bearings from a local shop. Online kit sources offer different kits for Saginaw and Chrysler pumps. Which do I have? '74 318 Swinger.

Thanks for listening to it again. Straight fan on this one, no thermoclutch.

No, thankfully, as I don't know any priests.

Stock 318 with a new noise.

Update: Got a new water pump from FlowKooler, installed it, bolted on the fan, put on the belt, started the car, and SKREEE! The noise is still there, in the same way as before. Took the belt off, no noise. So the only thing left is the bearing in the power steering pump. I'm not mad though...

Lost an alternator bolt, anybody know the spec?

In doing the water pump job on my '74 Dart 318, I've misplaced the long bolt that goes through the mounting bracket. Looked in my truck, Dad's truck, both of my toolboxes, the blast cabinet, etc. Does anyone know the specs on that bolt?

Yeah, the timing cover looks okay. I've been running a 50/50 mix since doing a Prestone flush, replacing the thermostat, and having the radiator re-cored. Just before I picked it up from my buddy last year, he replaced the heater core. Edited to add: Still have a couple of original hoses in...

That's a good idea, so I checked the pulley. Barely wiggles. Doesn't make any noise when steering.

I would, but it hasn't been gassed in years.

Stock 318 with a new noise.

Canceled my plans for the afternoon and started the process of elimination. Started with shining a drop light on the fan while revving, couldn't see it hitting anywhere. Took the shroud off and checked to be sure. Fan blades are nice and tight. There was no noise from the power steering pump...

Couldn't feel anything, no. Tried putting one end of a broom handle to it (and the power steering pump) and the other to my ear while Dad revved it, but couldn't isolate it.

Sorry, it's still uploading. Country wi-fi. Anyway, I removed the power steering belt and the noise went away. Now to figure out if it's the power steering pump or the water pump.

Stock 318 with a new noise.

Got my '74 out for a little cruise in the country and heard a new noise. This happens under pretty much any acceleration, or even cruising under throttle. Belts are snug, the fan doesn't appear to be hitting anything, and fluids are topped. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine, but...

    What would you do?

I'll tell my Corvair friends. Thank you to everyone who took time to vote in the poll, comment, and suggest suppliers. I genuinely appreciate your input.

    What would you do?

Yep. Bought new clips for the molding, then realized one side was different. Didn't have a matching pair except for some Corvair pieces. I've had a few Corvairs (okay, more than a few) and it seems the leftover parts never seem to run out, lol. I'll never be able to escape my Corvair past, haha!

    What would you do?

A little background: '74 Swinger, factory 318/AC/disc brake car. Shows 58-ish thousand miles. Other than leaving the vinyl top off during the repaint and adding Magnums (and the Corvair rocker trim, but ignore that), it's all stock and original. I just cruise it around and occasionally drive it...

Just wanted to show off my '74.

Ours (a LARC-LX) wasn't, but there was a smaller version (LARC-V) in the 2001 film. Although I haven't actually watched it.

Just wanted to show off my '74.

Looks small next to the LARC at work. It's coming along nicely. Since getting last year, it's had... - the shredded vinyl roof removed and body repainted in the original color - new heater core and carpet - Magnums and fresh BFGs - rebuilt power brake booster - new thermostat and upper/lower...
