Why I fell off the FABO Forum

Hello Gear Heads, Merry Christmas! A year ago, my wife called me from the kitchen floor. Doing what? Laying low because of a drive by shootout in front of our house in Tacoma WA. Called the police and said I had video footage of the car and the guy sitting on the passenger windowsill, shooting...

Finally found how the exhaust fumes were leaking into the car

I've had on ongoing exhaust leak inside this convertible since we bought it. The convertible boot is missing but so what? It didn't matter for half the year because the top was down. This time of year, it matters again. I bought rubber plugs for every hole in the floor pan and spent more time...

I think I need to go to Carter BBD Skool !

Since doing the latest engine mods, there is a hesitation accelerating off of idle (below 1500 RPM) when the choke has opened, and the thermostat is still closed. Stone cold / choke closed - no hesitation. At operating temperature - same smooth pull off of a green traffic light. In between full...

    Redneck Fluid Vacuum

Needed to upgrade to synthetic PS fluid after tube headers. Drilled a couple holes in this hard side jug lid to get it done. 1/4" hole for the tubing. 1" hole for the shop vac. The vacuum in the jug pulls the PS fluid through the tube and doesn't saturate the vac's filter.

Are my headers cooking my PS box?

Since making a set of Clifford shorties barely fit around my '64 Dart PS gear and clutch linkage, I've noticed a 0.5 to 1 second lag or seemingly moment of the PS pump going inoperative when I'm at idle and turning a corner. Doesn't happen every time and usually "freezes" about halfway through...

Looking for two serviceable /6 rocker arms. Don't need the adjustment screws. :thankyou:

How to open up rocker arm oil passages.

Hello all. As part of my reassembling of the cylinder head after shaving off .075", I soaked the rocker arms in the 'new-improved' EPA compliant carb cleaner and blew them all out with compressed air. I also gave them all the once over with a toothbrush. Upon adjusting the valves with the...

    [SOLD] Holley 1920 Carb

I'm cleaning the shop after upgrading to a BBD on my /6. For Sale is a Holley 1920 that came with the car when I bought it. It was stickered UREMCO Remanufactured 01/29/15. Looking at previous invoice history, I'm guessing the carb has less than 5K miles on it. I put a rebuild kit in it along...

Extra vacuum ports on 1974 BBD conversion

I'm doing a 1974 BBD conversion to replace my Holley 1920. So far so good! What are people doing to plug the extra three BBD vacuum ports? And is there is a preferred port for the distributor vacuum advance?

    Head Bolt Torque Question

When I did a valve job 2K miles ago, I torqued my Fel-Pro gasketed head to the FSM spec of 65lbs. I just had my head cut .075" for a static 8.05:1 compression. My new Dutra /6 Engines book shows Dutra torquing the head bolts to 80lbs. What to do?

How To ID An 8.25 Carrier

I plan to attend "The big Puyallup swap meet" this weekend to see if I can find an 8.25" carrier to upgrade my 2:45 rear end to either a 2:93 or 3:23. I've learned here that my 2:45 carrier has a different thickness ring gear mounting area so the pinion will line up properly. How would I...

Does a '74 BBD need mods to run on a /6?

I have a 1974 model year BBD to put on my '64 /6. Head is at the machine shop for an expected 8.7-1 static compression, stock cam for now, probably points ignition for now, and tube headers. Are there internal modifications needed to make this carb function optimally on my slant? Thanks in...

Looking for a cast iron welder in the Pacific Northwest

Hello all, I'm all wound up about making this split manifold modification while replacing the deteriating exhaust system on my '64 slant. This shinney new exhaust manifold is ready to cut in two and weld up. Dang if I can't find anyone in Tacoma that welds cast iron exhaust! Last known one...

[Found!] Parts - Holley 1920 For Throttle Shaft

Hello all. I'm looking for an unserviceable Holley 1920 carb. so I can cut off the throttle shaft. It's time to do the Two Barrel Conversion and I'd rather not damage a good 1920 for the end of the throttle shaft. Thanks in advance!! :thankyou:

    [SOLD] FREE '64 Dart Alternator

The rear(?) bearing started to howl on what looks like the model correct alternator on our '64 /6 Dart. At least it looks like the alternator illustrated in the FSM. It reliably produces 14.6 volts through the voltage regulator. I didn't want to mess with it, so I bought a new alternator from...

Anyone ever template the 1920 float bowl baffle?

Can't seem to find a Holley 1920 float bowl baffle. Does anyone have one they could trace for me? I think I could cut one out of an old credit card or suitable scrap plastic if I had the shape.

    [Found!] Holley 1920 Float Baffle

Rebuilding my Holley 1920 carb and found the float bowl baffle missing. No major issues with how the /6 runs. Just a little rich at cruise. I found it jetted larger than the FSM recommends. Anyway, Holley thought enough of the float bowl baffle to put one in there, so I may as well try to put it...

    [SOLD] Free 2x4 wheel cribs

Free to pick up in Tacoma WA - four wheel cribs measuring about 14" x 14" x 12" tall. Tight Bond glued and screwed together. Thought I would need eight cribs when I first started working on my honey's 64 Dart. Four will keep me goovin. This is probably $200 in lumber at today's prices!

Another ghost in the brake lights thread.

'64 Dart /6; A year ago, I cleaned all through firewall connections, tuned up the dash gauges, and cleaned tail, head, and parking light sockets, replaced the fuse box, and cleaned and adjusted the brake light switch. I didn't go into the headlamp switch or turn signal switch, but the turn...

    Shout Out To Laysons!!

So when we bought this '64 Dart last year, it had a new carpet rolled up in the trunk. After using POR-15 on the floor pans and adding a layer of sound deadening, I figured it was the right time to plug in the new carpet. Of course I tossed out the old, ratty carpet. The new carpet didn't fit...

Proper 8 1/4" Rear Brake Drum Adjustment Tool?

Okay, someone is going to say, "screwdriver". I tried that - it didn't work. A slot screwdriver will adjust the drum brake tighter but will not loosen it. I can hold down the tension tab that fits into the adjustment wheel through the offset opening, but can't back the adjustment wheel up from...

How would you bend this frame back?

To start with, you guys that can rebuild a convertible top out of nothing are so far ahead of me, I can hardly relate. Hopefully this fix isn't too far over my head.:D Somewhere in this car's life, a heavy politician must have sat on the top frame while doing the parade wave. The frame bow...

Know if these WS washer F fittings are all the same?

I got lucky taking the windshield washer portion of the wiper switch apart and cleaning up the contacts on my '64 Dart. Now I'm looking for a replacement F fitting for the washer hoses. There are F fittings for the 'F word' like this and this for under two bucks. Mopar? Eight bucks. I know it's...
