68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

The starting issue with the Signet I thought was as good as it was going to get. After everything priorly listed it was still difficult starting but much better heading in the right direction. I guess all the cranking took its toll on the starter. The starter got so bad that it needed to be...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I don't want to jinx things but a week later and all appears the fix is in on the Valiant. I'm going to leave well enough ALONE for now and be satisfied. The car pasted the test this weekend. My son who is not all that mechanically inclined and has always driven a fuel infected vehicle took the...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

Further thought.. I'm going to replace the carburetor accelerator pump before I add an electric fuel pump. Something isn't just right yet.

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I'm pretty sure or confident the ignition issue (power to the coil while cranking) is resolved. The wiring on the Valiant is really hacked that badly were the entire harness needs replacing. There has been someone fooling around, spliced and piecing together a few ignition wires in the harness...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

The nature of the beast (the end result combination) is a Holley (low rise single plane) Street Dominator intake manifold, Edelbrock 600 CFM (manual choke) Carburetor with a ridiculously stupid cam. The intake and carburetor is what I've used on the car from parts that were available and I...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

Changed the fuel pump and it is better. Definitely not a jump in, turn key fuel infected car. The combination intake, carburetor and cam I'm suspecting are adding to still keeping or adding to the car being finicky, a little tricky to start and cold harted. From the beginning of the process of...

    My first employee!

The exact reason I work by myself. I tried to hire help a few times but I'm not interested in being a babysitter. I hired one guy over the phone and told him to show up for work on Monday morning at 9:00. He was a local guy and I knew who he was. About 8:30 I seen him drive by my shop and he...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

Follow up / up date - Did some tracing with a test light a few weekends ago. I have the ignition issue resolved. I took the key switch out of the dash and disconnected the wires and cleaned up the connections. I put the wires back to the switch with dielectric grease giggled some wires through...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

It's been awhile since I've posted any progress on my Valiant. I don't want to leave this a dead end with no resolution. I've been driving the car but it still has the same starting issue. It always starts but with difficulties. The issue has presented itself worse with hotter weather...

    Snap on something?

More pictures. Front and back. I never figure out how to use it. It would help I'm guessing if you had a manual or instruction guide.

    Snap on something?

The only thing that is attached (hard wired) to the main box is a timing light and large alligator clip battery connectors.

    Snap on something?

Anyone familiar with this or ever used one. I remember years ago when I was a gas jockey at an Exxon station the shop mechanics used one. But I forgot more then I can remember. It came to me for free. I'd like to get an idea what it does and how to use it. It is supposably in working condition...

I don't want to appear to be an idiot but educate me. What engine will the distributor fit. I assume its for a Mopar Engine? I'm no expert but I never seen a Mopar dizzy with drive such as.

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I shot gunned the entire charging system with all new components. Shortly after I corrected the cam timing (and at least got the car running) I tracked down the car wasn't charging. The alternator was bad but while I was at it I replaced the voltage regulator. Like I said one disaster at a time...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

It thought there was suppose to be 12 volts to the coil while cranking with the key in the start position? With the engine running 9 volts to the coil. Put dual exhaust over the rear axle this the weekend. What a pain in the AS_!

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

My first thought was ignition switch. The problem tracking down the issue is I have no one to help (turn the key) crank the engine while I test for 12 volts at the coil.

    Torque Converter Identification

Doing a budget fix on a 1968 Valiant more door / crew cab. Bought the car cheap because the two previous owners couldn't figure out how to get the car / engine running correctly. They gave up on the car after spending more money then what it's worth. It's not a beauty contest and I took a...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I have a multimeter but its just taking up space in my tool box because I don't know how to use all its functions. The problem is it's a multimeter. If it did one function only I could probably figure it out. I'm pretty good or fair to midland mechanically wise. When it comes to wiring I'm a...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I haven't given up. I recently within the past 10 day have been make steady progress getting the car close to being road worthy. Gear grind after fluid change

Keep is simple. I have not found trying to reinvent the wheel always works. Sometimes older equipment does not like or agree with using full synthetic oil.

    Gear grind after fluid change

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

The way the ignition is shown in the picture I've attached with my original post is the way I took possession of the vehicle. There is a dark blue wire and brown wire (bonded) connected together on the right side of the resister. I'll check all the connection from the resister to the bulkhead...

68 Signet electronic ignition trouble - HELP..

I bought a 1968 Signet with a swapped in 318 this past fall that has not been road worthy since 2012. It went through 2 previous owners. The first owner put a ridiculous cam in the 318 without degreeing it correctly. The 2nd owner I bought the car from could not figure out the first owners...

    The unwanted 1968 Signet.

It isn't a truck you would want to use daily to go out and try to make money with but is serves it's purpose for what I need to do. I carry aluminum ramps to extend the lift ramp further.

    The unwanted 1968 Signet.

I am a retried Battalion Chief/EMT/Firefighter. The truck is a 1972 Mack CF-600 converted in to an equipment/vehicle hauler ramp truck. The truck is only used (not for hire) to haul around all the junk we have accumulated and own. The truck is another totally different story..
