    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

I was able to isolate the noise this morning. I hear the noise quite clearly through the stethoscope when I place it on the driver-side middle valve cover bolt, which is right between cylinders 3 and 5. The noise is not nearly as pronounced when I place the stethoscope on other valve cover...

    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

Firing order is correct, timing is 25-26 with 10 degree limiter bushing in the dist (+vac advance to ported vacuum). Rocker adjustment was good before I pulled them for the valve seal replacement. I do not think it is the valve covers, since I ran the engine with one valve cover off, but I...

    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

Very helpful! I'll look into the shims and measure the play. I believe the pistons are SRP forged 8.75cc dome. EDIT: I can not seem to find +8.75cc SRP pistons anywhere on the web, but that's what the build sheet says...

    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

Thanks! There is a little side to side play in the rocker arms, but from what I've researched, it seems to be a normal amount. I also ran the engine for a few seconds without the valve covers on and put side-to-side pressure on the rockers, the noise did not change. Pan rail is a good idea. I...

    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

Thanks for the reply. As I stated in the original post, it is not the flex plate bolts. The car has an ATI Super Damper, I just gave it a good wiggle in all directions and I do not feel any play, but I will remove the belts and look into it further tomorrow.

    416 Stroker Help Identifying Noise

Hello all, I need some help identifying the... dare I say... "knocking" noise in this video. To help identify what you are listening for: is louder in the first 1/3 of the video, fades out some in the middle, then comes back in the last 2/3 of the video. (excuse the watermark, I used a free...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Final resolution: I had the rear servo installed incorrectly. Everything is back together and driving nicely, reverse too! It actually shifts a little too firm for my liking, but I think I just need to get used to it. Next time I have the pan off, I will add the accumulator spring back in...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Lol! I wouldn’t feel right taking money to screw up my friends transmissions! But this has been a fun (read: frustrating) learning experience. I’m glad I didn’t just send it to a shop!

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

EDIT: I think I have the rear servo installed incorrectly. I will remove and reinstall it tomorrow.

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Update: Well, I'm not too proud to admit when I screwed something up! This is the first thing I saw when I dropped the pan... hand-tight VB bolts! Mcodecuda guessed it. It was pumping at least a little fluid, since the return line would drain fluid every time I removed it, so hopefully I didn't...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

I did install the filter extension, did not torque valve body bolts, just tightened them comfortably tight. I’ll check that too. Will report back after pan is dropped! I did not, should have though...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

I’m fairly certain that I got the manual valve in the slot, because it took me a couple tries so I remember doing it (that doesn’t mean I didn’t miss something else tough). But I think my best course of action at this point is to pull the pan anyways and have a look-see. But, even if the manual...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Thank you. Per my previous post, I have already confirmed that no fluid is being pumped = nothing is being lubed. I shut it off right after the test, hopefully nothing is damaged yet. My question is, is this most likely a larger problem, or simply low on fluid? SHOULD it still be pumping fluid...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Update: You are correct. I just unhooked the rear (return) line on the transmission and ran the car in park, neutral, and in the forward gears just for fun, no fluid coming out whatsoever. I did get a dribble of fluid from the hose when I first unhooked it though. Question: would the fluid not...

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Good question - I adjusted them per the TransGo instructions, but it can’t hurt to double check them I suppose. Front band snug then back off 2 turns, rear band snug then back off 2.5 turns

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Not sure about the factory TC, I’m using a 9.5” FTI 3500 stall TC. But either way, it should hold a fair amount. My concern is that the fluid seems to be staying in the pan, rather than filling the TC, but that’s just a guess for now.

727 Installed - No Movement in Gears

Hello! As the title states, the car doesn’t move or react when put into gear. 1968 Dart, 1975 727. I installed a trans-go shift kit before installing the transmission, so there’s always the possibility that I screwed something up there... it was my first time. Here’s some info: - B&M shifter...

    MSD Ignition - No Start

I did look for a minimum voltage, but I could not find a definitive one for my box. Lots of speculation out there, but nothing concrete. Thanks again!

    MSD Ignition - No Start

I used MSD's test of unhooking the coil wire from the dist and placing it near ground, then tapping the white wire from the MSD box to ground and I got a nice blue spark each time. But that doesn't rule out a low battery not supplying enough power while cranking, and that doesn't rule out the...

A fair guess, but I have been driving it regularly and just filled up the other day.

    MSD Ignition - No Start

Hello! My 68 dart will suddenly not start. It has always started up relatively easy, but it does not have a choke so cold starts were a little tricky, but not too bad. First, car info: 340/416 stroker A833 4 speed Holley 9381 830 competition double pumper (no choke) MSD ignition: MSD Digital 6...

    A833 to 727 Swap - Parts List?

No offense taken, I realize it is not for everyone, but not everyone lets their wife drive their car either! Plus it's just not as fun dealing with traffic in the 4 speed... New transmission is cheaper :)

    A833 to 727 Swap - Parts List?

Thanks for all the replies! I should have mentioned, this car was originally a slant 6/automatic, so I’m not cutting up a 4 speed car. If anything, I’m restoring it to it’s more “correct” state! Plus, we already have a grocery getter, the point here is that we like driving our dart... I have...

    A833 to 727 Swap - Parts List?

Call me crazy, but I am strongly considering swapping my ‘68 dart’s 833 to a 727. It has a 340 (416 stroker), about 515 HP. Los Angeles traffic, plus my wife not being as confident driving the 4 speed, and I want her to be more comfortable driving it. I’m trying to come up with a parts list, I...
