I think I might have solved the "cut-pile" or "80/20 loop" carpet mystery

Very interesting replies. I had a twin to the red '73 Dart Sport above and it had black loop carpeting. The '69 Dart sedan I owned for a while had black loop carpeting. The '74 Valiant I owned which was a fairly loaded car had green loop. Here is the cut-pile in my Valiant. Presumed to be...

I think I might have solved the "cut-pile" or "80/20 loop" carpet mystery

So, I've seen this topic come up from time to time regarding which A-bodies got which type of carpet, why and when. Some people attribute it to where the car was built, a year time-frame, the alignment of the stars...whatever. I'm happy to share that after researching 100's of Plymouth Valiants...

Gas cap - Vented or Not

This is an old thread, but it comes up in Google search results. To offer clarity, you can group which tank and which gas cap to use on the following criteria- 1970 Federal and all earlier use a tank without the 1/4" fitting located above the sending unit. They require the usage of the...

    Oil pump standpipe lengths

I would like to know the exact lengths of the two standpipes used in production slant oil pumps before and after the changeover date in the early 70's from the long to the short. The parts book says the changeover date was for the 1971 model year. A TSB issued 2-23-72 refers to short oil filter...

    Correct Ballast resistor

I know this is dragging up an old thread, but I wish people would simply answer the question that asked, if they know the answer, and if they don't know, don't insert opinions unless prompted. To refresh...the question that was posted was, in essence, what is the difference in these two ballast...

Why is the wheel bearing grease leaking out of the dust cap?

Hello all: I packed the wheel bearings on two vehicles some time ago that haven't been driven since, and both of them are seeping the "carrier oil" or whatever it's called out from around the dust caps. I used some type of red grease who's brand I don't recall, but as OCD as I am about...

Ok, why is this wire here?

Hey guys: Got a bit of a mystery. I'm working on a 1972 Valiant that is completely stock and untouched and just needs the usual repairs to get it back on the road. I noticed the steering column harnesses hanging down, and when i investigated, I found 3 of the wires removed out of the "big"...

2 similar A-bodies...which would YOU build and why?

Remember, I already own them and mentioned that I like them both, so there's no issue with suiting me. I don't "need" to build two similar cars, but I have a lot more money in one versus the other. If I were to turn one into a parts car then the other needs to be built into something pretty much...

2 similar A-bodies...which would YOU build and why?

Howdy: I thought I'd post a topic that doesn't exactly have a certain answer...more along the lines of opinion gathering for the fun of it. I have 2 A-bodies of the same style, different years. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses. I will describe each without writing a book and you tell me...

Wheel and tire suggestions for an early '80s D150

Hey guys: I recently bought my brother's 1983 318/4spd swb D150. I'm needing to get some wheels and tires on it. For the past 15 years or so it's had a set of those chrome "bullethole" wheels...probably 15x9. Two of them disappeared, and the remaining pair are shabby and rusting. The...

Anyone in Houston area(old dealer info)?

Hey guys: I recently bought another original 1972 Plymouth Valiant which purportedly was sold new here in the south, but obviously wasn't. There is a very old sticker centered on the rear bumper that has the Chrysler pentastar, then "Katy Road" and "Houston, TX' underneath that. Based on which...

That would be great. How about sending me a PM so we can set up the payment, etc? Thanks.

How many CURRENT owners of real '74 360 Duster 4 speed cars on here?

One showed up at the Lebanon TN show last year. Sherwood Green, 4-speed, white vinyl top with factory sunroof. Either an immaculate restoration or immaculate original. I didn't see pictures of it so far. I took pictures of it but hesitate to post someone else's car without their ok. Is the owner...

Modern re-creation for those old window graphics?

Hey everyone: My 1969 Dart sedan has an ancient dealer-promo window graphic in the rear window that I would like to have reproduced if possible because it is so neat. I am guessing this was some type of decal transfer. I didn't know that stuff existed back then and this is the only car I've...

[WANTED] 67-76 donor metal where the shock bolts are inside trunk

Hey guys: I need to buy a chunk of good metal from someone. This is the portion of sheetmetal inside the trunk where the shock bolts are, as shown. I've never seen a car that had this damaged, but when a po swapped in an 8.25 into my SLANT SIX Swinger, they mangled that area on one side...

    Another engine ID mystery.

The sticker is the part number. There really isn't much else to learn since we know that all of them were cast-crank, hydraulic lifter 225 engines by then. I had a '68 also. What engine is your car coded for in the VIN? Check the 5th digit...if it's an A it originally had a 170 like my car did...

    Condenser differences?

Thankful for the help but I wasn't satisfied with these answers, so I did my own research: Mopar apparently used a total of 3 different part numbers for ignition condensers- 1818757 used on early single-point engines and on later dual point applications. 2098058 used on single-point...

    Condenser differences?

I have a highly technical question- I see condensers with a regular wire, and I see them with a large copper strap. Why? What are the differences(besides one has a wire and one has a strap)? My 2bbl 273 Dart still has the original installed at the factory in November 1968 and it's the...

    Chrysler starter spin down time

Well, I thought I would contribute to this thread again since, in the intervening years I have bought and rebuilt many of these starters and used several for parts. I feel that I can condense a lot of the information that has already been posted in order to answer the original question in a way...

    Oil from Manifold?

I've never seen that one before...if it's an original engine that hasn't been apart then it has a steel shim head gasket that could theoretically rot out and leak. Might want to brake clean it off and then carefully watch it while someone runs the engine about 2500 rpm. Watch the fan!

    30, 41, 46, 50 amp alternators? Yeah RIGHT

Great information. So it sounds like I need to find a used alternator testing machine, if one of those is capable of loading the alternator. Curious though....why wouldn't Chrysler build just one "50-amp" alternator instead of going to the trouble of building different units such as the 34 and...

    30, 41, 46, 50 amp alternators? Yeah RIGHT

So, has anyone noticed the funny business Mopar used with their alternator ratings? Oh, I know there were supposed to be different ratings available on paper in different years, but I spent some time looking through parts books recently and found some interesting stuff. Let me clarify that I'm...

All right, is there any good 5/16 fuel line anywhere now?

I wish I could say I had a hose leak on a 426 Hemi, but nope, this was on my 1969 Dart with a 273. Sometime in the last couple of years while the car was getting put back together, I installed new reproduction fuel lines at the engine and new hose sections and a filter. This is the old-style...

    Holley 1920 accelerator pump issues

I second that. Holley 1920 carbs have all the typical Holley problems with the metering block, the diaphragm-type accelerator pump that has a convenient leak hole to dump fuel on the manifold when it ruptures, a bowl gasket under fuel, a side-hung nitrophyl float...it's just a problem looking...

1963-69 starter question, and it's a good one...

Good evening: Let's see if anyone knows or pretends to know the answer to a question I will include near the end of this post. First, some factual information- At least as far back as 1962 and lasting through most of the 1969 model year, Chrysler equipped vehicles that had automatic...

I hope I never have to buy another Precision seal as long as I live

So i've been building a couple 4-door 67-69 sedans because I wanted practice before doing my Swinger and Scamp. Both needed windshields, so I ordered the first one from somebody that carried Precision gaskets, because they were CHEAP. Well here's a warning to those cooler than I who might...

3M Bedding and glazing compound not available...what now?

Good. I suppose I can can start looking around for half-used tubes instead of full ones. I used 3/4 of a tube on the last one I did. Maybe I did it WRONG, but it didn't leak. Don't know about plenty at Napa. I bought the only tube left in a store within 250 miles. Memphis hub had one tube left...

3M Bedding and glazing compound not available...what now?

I've been trying to locate this stuff everywhere I know to look and just everyone that carries it is either out or almost out. I ordered 2 from NPD and they emailed me and only had one. What gives? Is 3M withdrawing this from the market? If that's the case what is an acceptable, PROVEN...
