    Plug and play distributor

What exactly are you looking to charge with the new distributor? Ease of changing the advance curve, hide the ignition module inside the distributor, or what? And what's the intended use for the car? A street cruiser will have different needs from a 10,000 RPM naturally aspirated drag car, or a...

    Repair of damaged PCB

Definitely a cold solder joint. I would redo the joint using flux paste, which will help get through the rust. If you have a good solder joint, it won't need glue, and if you have a bad one, glue won't save it.

(Sorta) Super Six Build Just Getting Started

I used a Lokar cable kickdown (there's a more affordable cable option but I can't recall its name) connected to the gas pedal like a second throttle cable.

    Ignition Switch Connector (or pigtail)

I'm printing a prototype, but if I put them into production I plan to use polyurethane molding.

    HEI conversion benefits

An MSD box is a bit of a different critter: It fires the coil by dumping 400 volts from a capacitor into the coil. HEI uses an electronic switch that behaves like points, but with variable dwell. This has a few differences in practice. One, a tach that works with the stock ignition will work...

    HEI conversion benefits

Under vacuum, you have less cylinder filling and the mixture doesn't burn as quickly. So it needs more timing to run efficiently. Unless you only run at idle and full throttle, your ignition system will need some way to provide this advance - either a mechanical advance diaphragm or an...

    Ignition Switch Connector (or pigtail)

Starting some work on it. This one has a few obvious mistakes, but the holes line up...

    Sealed Beam Headlights

Interesting thread on another forum: It appears ordering part number 81110-60p70 from a Toyota dealership gets you two Japanese-made Koito 7" H4 headlamps plus wiring and a relay setup for around $20. It's sold as a conversion for older Land Cruisers. No idea on how their beam pattern compares.

Aftermarket ignition ...do you really need one?

That saying is a first approximation: You can have an ignition that is powerful enough that the engine runs reasonably well, but leaves power on the table due to incomplete combustion. I've seen that happen on the dyno. But once you get a strong enough ignition to have complete combustion every...

Aftermarket ignition ...do you really need one?

Yes, at least for the 1.4 ohm model. Although it would not be my first choice. The 0.7 ohm one may have problems.

Aftermarket ignition ...do you really need one?

Warning, multi page long incoming post. One line that I can't take credit for that sums up a lot: "If a match lights the fire just fine, a blowtorch isn't going to do any better." If the timing is optimal, and your current ignition lights off the mixture just fine every time, then you won't see...

    60 Valiant MSD 12v source

Run the tach off the MSD tach output wire. When MSD says "This is the ONLY wire you should run to the negative terminal of the coil," they mean it.

    60 Valiant MSD 12v source

Battery grounds are theoretically best, but for an MSD box that doesn't have to take precise analog voltage measurements, it won't make a difference if you ground to the block. I've seen a few horror stories where someone got creative with the grounds for one of those and used a badly grounded...

    60 Valiant MSD 12v source

Yes. Or to put it another way, connect the two connectors on the ends of the ballast resistor together and run the blue coil positive wire to the MSD box

    Room for a Clutch-Fan in a '65?

If you're having trouble with the belt not being tight enough, you can replace the alternator bracket with a rod with spherical bearing at each end, circle track style. Much easier to set and keep belt tension than a slot.

    Gasket recommendations?

I'm using a Remflex exhaust flange gasket and was quite impressed. IIRC, the manifold gasket I'm using now is a Felpro, and I don't have any complaints, but the Remflex looks even better. Not using a riser gasket myself.

Not specifically for audio, but I'm using a stock '89 318 truck alternator. I believe it's 100 amp.

Did you change your Master Cylinder pushrod changing fron single to dual??

I switched from a single to dual reservoir without changing the pushrod and with no issues. I used an A-body cast iron MC; you may need more length if you use an aluminum two bolt MC and an adapter.

Installing an American Autowire Classic update wiring harness

You should still be able to run that alternator, just add a few more wires for the regulator.

    Bypass regulator expert?

Most OEM bypass regulators don't (not aware of any case when these were used with a carb, generally an EFI thing). Many aftermarket bypass regulators do, as they trade maybe a longer starting time for the ability to regulate a higher volume fuel pump.

    68 Dart wiring questions

Fair enough, I'm not convinced the bulkhead bypass is necessary. But a badly done bulkhead bypass is the worst possible option.

    68 Dart wiring questions

That fully bypasses the ammeter. Some wiring installations try bypassing more than that, such as the feed-through connection on the bulkhead. There are some websites with directions that just drill through the connector and run a wire through that, but I'd recommend something more readily...

    Oil pan gasket tips?

Unfortunately nobody's making a one piece silicone gasket for the slant six that I'm aware of. If you have a source, please let us know; I tried to find one a few years ago and struck out. There's one on the market that replaces the cork rail gaskets only, and keeps the rubber end pieces, but I...

Who would like to beta test one of my new voltage regulators?

I decided to use the spade terminal version rather than the motorsport connector version - I was feeling lazy and didn't want to run an extra wire. The 3D printed adapter means I can easily switch back if anything breaks on the test run. Ran for 20 minutes without any trouble. Next step will...

    alternator amps

There are a couple different alternators; OE could be anything from 23 amp (nope!) to 60 amp (should be OK).
