    Unsticking an unused engine........

Used MMO, ATF &acetone, PB BLaster, Knocker loose, wd40 penetrant,, deep creep, all for a good long soak. Cyl 2 never leaked down, but the other 7 did. Thought the inside must be bad, but both top amd bottom end look great. Was going to take the rof cap off on #2 and see if crank roatated...

273 Cracked Intake manifold with a belly of "Charcoal"!

273's for the Dodge and Plymouth are the same except for the 4bbls where they got different stickers on the chrome air cleaner; Charger 273 for Dodge and Commando 273 for Plymouth. Some of what you are seeing are aftermarket aluminum intakes (primarily Edelbrock) but "Dodge Parts" are not...

273 Cracked Intake manifold with a belly of "Charcoal"!

"However, the 4 barrel Commando came after the heads & intake marriage changed the angle for that union." Nope. The 4bbl Commando/Charger started in 1965 with 5/16 intake bolts at the 'wrong' angle. For 1966 they switched the intake bolt angle and swapped out for 3/8-16 bolts.

    Unsticking an unused engine........

Block is stamped B273-11-6 which does not match the online discussions of later (98 and after) block stamping that has the partial VIN. However, with a 8/2 casting and an 11/10 SO date is the stamped 11-6 the engine assembly date?

    Engine install on assembly line

My B10 (November 10, 65) date 273 has a block with a born-on date of 8/2/65 (night shift) and it is a B273 stamped engine.

    Unsticking an unused engine........

After a bit of searching on various forums, this seems to be the consensus for the hard, gritty, clay-like stuff I found and had to chip out of the recesses to get a socket on the head bolts: "This used to be common back in the 50's, 60's and 70's with oils with high paraffin content, leaded...

    Unsticking an unused engine........

It's very sandy and hard caked in the low spots of the heads and the oil galley....had to dig it out with a screwdriver in several places. Are you sure it is an oil/water emulsification, as that would make it more like an unholy mayonnaise consistency as opposed to what feels a bit like a...

    Unsticking an unused engine........

Ok, i have the engine out and at my home garage. I power washed it of 59 years of caked on grease. Ruined a set of shorts in that little operation as the stuff just will not come out even with my usual grease removing tricks. Also did the wash a little close to the closed garage door and had...

Look what made its way to my garage....

I should know in a few days why this one would not turn over after all those years of storage..... My money is on cyl 2 having frozen rings as it never let down on any of the fluids i used to soak it. The other 7 all leaked down into the pan eventually.

Driver's side Heat Shield ex. gasket question.

Now that I have the engine and 4 spd out I will have it to my garage tomorrow. I plan to do pics of the teardown to see why its not turning after 30 years of storage and then every attempt to unseize it I could think of or get recommended. I will link the pics here as well.

Driver's side Heat Shield ex. gasket question.

273 4bbl. Just removed the engine and there was no exhaust gasket on the pass. side, but the heat shield gasket was on the driver side. Can I reuse that? I don't see many repro ones, if any (see mention of NOS ones, rarely, when I do a search here). If they don't necessarily even need an ex...

    need pics of 1966 273 4 bbl A-833 clutch z bar

Yeah, that was the part that rotted out.... the plate replaced the rotten fender liner. it just hollowed out the hole and stopped working. The local mechanic's fix, circa. 1975 is what i am dealing with now.

    need pics of 1966 273 4 bbl A-833 clutch z bar

Pivot tube came off. It appears that they 'fabricobbled' a plate and used three long bolts (lower red arrows) to bolt it through the frame member creating an anchor for the outboard pivot tube ball stud (by the upper red arrow on the left side). I am gonna wait until I have the engine out...

Something that shows the geometry so I can make sure the frame pivot point is in the right place. I will post a pic of it as it sits, but maybe measurements from some point of reference to the pivot location so I can confirm the placement. Will IM you.....

    need pics of 1966 273 4 bbl A-833 clutch z bar

My 66 Barracuda had the frame mount for the Z Bar fail back in the 1970's. The mechanic back then welded a patch to the frame and it basically works, but its not in exactly the right place. While it is on the rotisserie, I want to address this and bring it back to the as-designed state as...

    Instrument Cluster plastic repair issue..

Need to rebuild the posts a bit so I have something to hold to....in removing them, even being careful with my soldering iron, many of them mushroomed or blew out as the metal plate got hot as well. I could use some milliput, jb weld, or green stuff to make a new base post..

    Instrument Cluster plastic repair issue..

My 66 Barracuda is being redone and I am working on the instrument cluster. Roger Kizer (@RogerK ) mentioned in one of his YT videos about melting the plastic pins when disassembling the plastic cluster for repairs adding a little new plastic when you were reassembling them. I had rust between...

    On 66 its ABC where Engine is AB and trans is C AB32 is 273 4bbl, AB 31 is 273 2bbl...C3 is 4spd A-833 and C5 is 904 Auto

    Certicard decode..

Car has always had a 4 speed and the fender tag is '323' (273 4bbl 4speed), so yet another layer of "why so many ways to say the same thing?"

    Certicard decode..

66 Barracuda. Some entries are easy, others a mystery. Vin on top line. Next line has P4X and LLI (black buckets and LL1 dark turquoise exterior) T3 (A833 4 speed ?) SG (sure grip) then III0 ( prob 1110...means what?) Then dad's address below that...

After reviewing the engine removal threads I still have a couple questions.

Ok, its been 35 years since I had that 4 speed off, but I can do that. Separate them while on the cherry picker before putting the engine on a stand? What to disconnect the clutch linkage? Just the torque rod to clutch fork, or does the torque shaft have to come off?

After reviewing the engine removal threads I still have a couple questions.

I have read the engine removal thread for 273 V8 and manual trans. here ( Engine Removal ). I have a 66 Barracuda with stock 273 4bbl and A-833 and it is being disassembled so hood is off, radiator our, fenders off, etc. I am doing an "out the top" removal as we have to have it rolling until...

[WANTED] 66 A-Body driver side splash shield.

Looking for a splash shield for a 66 A-Body. I need the one on the driver's side behind (to the rear of) the wheel. I understand that any 66 A Body one will work as the one in front of the wheel are fender specific, but the ones behind the wheel are universal for the year. If that info is...
