So I bought an 8.75" B body housing, axles and perches for $200...

OK, new twist- I found this rear end for a pretty good price, and was thinking about using the backing plates, drums, etc. Except these axles look different. Supposed to be a 64 B body rear. Can I use a combination of these 2 rear ends and come out with one complete to put under this Barracuda?

So I bought an 8.75" B body housing, axles and perches for $200...

Best news this week! I was kinda dreading all the cutting, straightening, squaring up, welding, etc. Now all I have to do is find someone that's already figured out the backspace thing for 15" wheels.

So I bought an 8.75" B body housing, axles and perches for $200...

Well, here is the stuff I bought. Does it look like it'll work together, or do I have to approach this differently? BTW, I have a 741 case with a 2.76 open in the garage that I'm gonna use to mock it up for the new driveshaft.

Thanks to everyone for the great info, as always. I'm absolutely going to have some related questions! I'll post a couple pics with measurements tomorrow. Too damn cold outside right now!

So I bought an 8.75" B body housing, axles and perches for $200...

I plan on shortening it to use in the 66 Cuda. Looks like I overloaded my old *** once again, but I'll figure it out. Current question is backing plates...didn't come with any, and I'm wondering if there is a preferred type (size), and how to source them. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

    5.9 Magnum pushrod measuring questions

I thought about that. It looks like all the plungers are right up against the retaining clip at the top of the lifter. Hope that means they're at the top of their travel. I don't think I put enough pressure on them to push them down any.

    5.9 Magnum pushrod measuring questions

I went back and measured again when you pointed out the math ain't mathing. Measured 5 different valves, averaged out around 6.950. If I order 7.00 pushrods, think .050 is enough preload?

    5.9 Magnum pushrod measuring questions

I am admittedly unfamiliar with Magnum engines and their pushrod/rocker arm setup. I had my original 5.9 roller cam reground, reusing the roller lifters and installed a Fel Pro 9898 head gasket . Only thing changed from stock was the regrind. Installed lifters and torqued the heads down. Using a...

    magnum valve train questions

I have this same regrind. Did your friend have rocker to retainer interference issues, or was the geometry just off? Starting to look like I may have interference problems too.

    5.9L Magnum questions

I had to go with the KB 107's, couldn't get the other pistons. While I have everything apart, what parts do I have to give the machine shop to get the rotating assembly balanced? Pistons and rods? Crank? I was trying to keep everything away from the shop. Damn.

    5.9L Magnum questions

For anyone that is considering using Comp 901 springs on 5.9 iron heads, they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT drop in to the stock machined seats. Ask me how I know...

    5.9L Magnum questions

Yeah, I'll get another head- what really irritates me is the new Comp 901 springs don't fit. Every post I've read said they are "drop ins". Did I misunderstand?

    5.9L Magnum questions

And the saga continues...anyone have any issue with getting Comp 901 springs to sit down on the stock seats? I kinda thought that these springs were drop in's on stock 5.9 iron heads. I measured the stock spring base dia. at about 1.316, the 901's are 1.494. Anyone have to take a grinder to open...

    5.9L Magnum questions

One more question- I was doing a little grind/polish on my iron heads, and was inspecting the typical cracks between the valve seats. Both ends of the heads on the exhaust had the crack run about 1/4" or more down into the bowl. Take a look at the pic and let me know if you think this will cause...

Yep, std. bore pistons. Wasn't planning on balancing. Even if I replaced a couple stock pistons, I'd probably be in the same boat.

    5.9L Magnum questions

So the build has changed a little since I've gotten further into the motor - 2 stock pistons cracked, don't trust the rest. Ordered H116CP's. At my deck height they will stick above from .006 -.015. Got my reground roller cam back from Oregon yesterday- #2204 grind, 213/220 @ .050”, 265/275...

    5.9L Magnum questions

Ha! Because I know more that EVERYONE, and my installation/removal abilities are far beyond everyone else's, I bought the tool and installed the cam bearings myself. THREE sets of bearings. Three. #4 bearing hates me. Oh wait...ended up buying the H116CP pistons too, because if you need pistons...

    Small block 727?

Except - 1. I already have a brand new 2800 stall TC sitting in the garage for the 727. 2. There is some question about TC availability for the early 904. 3. I'm not going to put an unchecked trans in behind an updated motor. Both trans' would have to come apart anyway. Not doing it twice if I...

    Small block 727?

There was some question as to what torque converters would be available for the 904 behind the 5.9, so for $100 I thought it would be cheap insurance if I ran into problems.
