My 7 1/4 is 2.76. Which was fairly common with the automatic (904) transmission. You can always take the back off and count the ring and divide it by the pinion. That will tell you exactly what your ratio is.

I have just finished changing the oil on a "new" differential for my '76 dart. While I was prepping to take the old one out and replace, I noticed oil leaking from the front of the pumpkin....Pinion Seal. Does anyone know what size the nut is that attaches the yoke to the pinion shaft?

how can i tell which tranny i have? I haven't done a lot with mopar. Mostly GM stuff in the past.

I have a 7.25 differential in my '76 dart. I've been told if I go up to a 8.75 that it is a better differential. Also that I would have to shorten the drive shaft. What if I found a 8.75 on an a-body and also snagged the shaft from the same car. Will that work?

Excuse my ignorance for a moment, is this a manual or automatic transmission this is happening to. I ask, because I had a differential go out on me with my dart while I was driving. Do I need to worry about my automatic tranny too??
