Plug wire organization - need help

Check these out. I have a set on my 318, they are very nice. Only thing I dont like is that some of the plug wires are juuuuuuuuuust long enough. http://www.summitracing.com/search/make/dodge/year/1970?SortBy=None&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=r%20%26%20m%20wire%20looms

    exhaust bolt sealant

hi, Wondering what everyone uses to seal the front and rear exhaust manifold bolts. I use a high temperature sealant, but every time they will seal but when I tighten them up at least one of them leaks and starts to steam, and of course lose coolant. Thanks, Steve

    New headers TTI or Doug

the ceramic coating on my Dougs is starting to get some rust coming through after 3 years. Not happy about it. I though they were supposed to last better than that. Also, had to weld a leak on the #7 hole that they must have missed during building. I have not had TTI's, but might give them a...

    the engine diagnosis game!

now that you ask about the intake, I did put a new intake on it and it did not fit correctly, I had the machine shop that did my heads mill some off to get it to sit down far enough, and I also drilled the holes out a little bigger. ( I can't remember if I drilled the holes before I had it...

    the engine diagnosis game!

I just checked the deck on the head and block. The smallest feeler gauge I have is 0.002, and I could not get it under the straight edge anywhere. As far as torquing, I followed the procedure in my rebuild manual. However, I do not know how many times the bolts have been used, and plan on...

    the engine diagnosis game!

I think (hoping) that it blew it out the breather on the valve cover, since there was also oil on the valve cover.

    the engine diagnosis game!

here is what I used: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-4120094?part=DCC-4120094&N=400172+115&autoview=sku apparently they are not available any more, but I have a spare set and was thinking about using them again. Is there a reccomendation for a different gasket? I liked these because...

    the engine diagnosis game!

and the answer everyone has been waiting for!! I thought it was the intake manifold leaking from the oil sitting on the top of the timing chain cover, so I took it off and I couldn't see a leak. So I got the trouble light out and started looking:

    the engine diagnosis game!

Who wants to play?! So I took the dart to a friends house Friday night (100 mile round trip), returned Saturday at 1, then headed out to a wedding 35 miles away at 1:30. 10 Miles into the trip as a car ahead of me was slowing down to turn right, I passed and opened it up, and instantly the...

    Is it worth it???

I enjoyed rebuilding my engine (only one i've done) with the help of a book and a mechanically inclined friend. I think the biggest pain about it is fixing oil leaks (just sprung another Saturday) It is fun to talk about your car when you have done most of the work yourself, I hired the rebuild...

    oil out the dipstick

ok, so the only time i have oil coming out now with the PCV in one valve cover connected to the carb, and a breather on the other cover is when i am at high rpm. I could try putting another breather in a knockout on the valve covers (then 2 breathers and 1 pcv) but it sounds like i...

    oil out the dipstick

well, took it around the block tonight, got on it to about 3500 and had some oil on the windshield, pulled over, reved it by hand, oil is coming out the dipstick still. On the way back to the house i got on it harder and it blew the pcv and grommet right out of the other grommet (forgot the...

    oil out the dipstick

so i looked around tonight and finally found a grommet that will hopefully work with my mopar performance valve covers. The grommets they gave me with the hardware kit don't fit as they are not deep enough. I found one that should work and had to "glue" it in with some silicone. I just had it...

    oil out the dipstick

i have a breather on one valve cover. I wanted to put a pvc valve in, but haven't been able to find any grommets that will allow me to do that yet. I do have another breather i could put in so i have 2. Maybe that will help? thanks, Steve

    oil out the dipstick

So once again, i was reminded that to assume is to make an *** of you and me. i took my intake off 3 times because i though it was leaking oil out between the intake and the block by the alternator. Got it back together for the third time a week ago, drive around the block and guess what...

    ignition starting problem

yea, i'm feeling alot better, thanks i'll try the bulk head connector. maybe pull it off and see if there is corrorsion in there or if something appears to be loose. And get another ignition switch for backup. now to find the ignition switch, i'll try yearone, paddock, etc. Thanks...

    ignition starting problem

and now i can start to get working on my car again after having to get my appendix out. so after finding out it is very difficult to change the ignition switch and that i only have the key cylinder. I do not currently have the required pieces. However, i tried tonight and i do have...

    Edelbrock intake oil leak

i don't have any dowel pins. Got the engine without an intake on it, and i've never taken apart another engine, so i never even though about them. But it is still leaking a little bit. Maybe i'll try the grey permatex. Thanks! Steve

    ignition starting problem

Thanks fishy, actually i think you told me how to wire it to begin with about a year ago. hopefully i'll have enough time and my roommate will be around tommorow night to test the power. Last night before posting i tested the positive side of the coil, with the ignition on it was 12V...

    ignition starting problem

hi, I took the ignition off my dart to fix some leaks associated with the intake manifold. I put it back on and now i am having an issue with it starting. first some info: - I have a Davis Unified Ignition Chrysler Tri-power system (electronic distributor, no ballast resistor) - With...

    Edelbrock intake oil leak

i haven't used cork or rubber seals yet. Only high temp silicone. The gaskets won't even fit since i had to have the intake milled down .060 so it would line up with the head. I'll probably give the silicone another shot. Last time i let it set up for about 10 minets before putting the intake...

    Edelbrock intake oil leak

Hi, So i got my 318 together last summer and i had a small oil leak. Oil was leaking out from between the edelbrock intake and the block by the timing chain cover by cylinder 2. I took it apart this spring and resealed it (high temp silicone was used both times). It didn't leak idling it...

    helicoil in heads

Hi, I got my last problem solved. I ended up grinding some aluminum out of the intake to get the stud to go in at the "new" angle of the threads on the helicoil. Also cut the bolt shorter so that it would clear the intake to get it into the hole. Tonight was much better than last night...

    helicoil in heads

ok, i am still not done with this project. I put the intake back on, and with 3 bolt left to tighten down, it stripped the thread in the head. Another trip to town to get a 3/8 helicoil pack. Got back and looked at the rest of them, there are quite a few intake threads that already had...

    helicoil in heads

Lots of info! Thanks for the tips, i'm sure that i'll have to put a helicoil in again sometime and the more info the better. It's also nice to learn some history about them and understand what i have. Fishy68, i think thats a good idea, i'm glad you told me that. I could get better flowing...

    helicoil in heads

$2,000! wow. i think i have $3,300 in the rest of the engine. The entire engine was given to me about 6 years ago for my Barracuda. My dads John Deere dealer had a '68 fastback and had a 340 for it. He gave this engine to me for my barracuda. It was at someone elses house that had rebuilt it in...

    helicoil in heads

Thats good info. I never really looked into what they were too much. I also haven't seen too many other heads or the rockers to notice a difference in mine. And you know what else makes me lucky?! They were given to me. I took another picture, you can see 360 cast into the head on the...

    helicoil in heads

hi, I had a intake manifold leak and took the intake off. Also, each head has one set of threads that have stripped out that hold the valve covers on. I was planning on taking the heads off as well to put the heli coils in, but now i see that the holes do have a bottom to them. Is it safe to...
