    400 HP - 318 Build-up

WOW ! I know 400hp /400lbft with these heads and intake on a 360 is cake, but on a 318...holly cow....humm ive got an internaly balanced, low rotating weight zero deck 366 in the garadge.I wonder what this combo would make on that short block. 450 horse street small block??

    how high rpms on 360

i agre with the above. depending on your carb intake and cam , you may be able to rev to 6000 but really not be making power that high. stock 2 piece valves dont last forever at that kind of rpm either. if you do it daily , plan for a failure. if you only do it once in a while it shuld hold up...

    Small Block Cranking Torque

i was tought to check the crank without pistons, end play, and to observe how much more it took to spin the motor as i bolted up each rod. it shuld turn a little bit harder each piston thats added.

How do you pull a van's engine?

if your just swapping motor its better through the side, but if you remove the intake you can bring the trans out the front with the motor. i would bolt a chain tight from side to side and hook as close to the block as possible...i droped one out the bottom with a torch once too, then rolled the...

    Which 360?

I think the truck 360 should be an E58, it would have a better cam and heads, and possibly a windage tray? (not sure if they used that in the trucks). the truck would also have the wrong oil pan and oil pickup for a car. but they are available aftermarket (chrome) from summit or others. you...

    360 balanceing

when i did mine i used the kb pistons and 273 rods (lighter) i was able to have weight removed in the front and a slug of mallory metal put in the back to internaly balance it. balance is important and helps your engine run smoothly and last much longer.

Do freeze plugs work as they should???

ive had them crack in the valley, and between the center core plugs. ive also patched both with JB weld after cleaning with brake clean. it doesnt last forever but it will last a while

    360 swap to adjustable rockers

It sounds like chrisII has the long solid lifter pushrods with hydraulic lifters and had to back the rocker adjuster way into the rocker body. Not a good idea. Ideal pushrod length leaves about 0-2 threads of the adjuster showing under the rocker arm. When i bought my pushrods I ordered...

    Modern 318 in a 72 duster.. Possible???

if you spend enough time and money you can do alot of things , but often times it isnt worth the trouble. to swap in the magnum 318 or 360 it just makes sense to use the carb, unless your just a glutten for punishment. the trans for a 2wd dakota or ram neads floor pan mods to fit in an A...

    360 swap to adjustable rockers

when i swaped to the adjustables i bought the proper length pushrods (i dont remember the length)but i had some troubles with them being too long and had to do some slight grinding on the bottom of the rocker so it didnt hit the cup. when i made the swap it was beacuase i was breaking alot of...

    Modern 318 in a 72 duster.. Possible???

if im not mistaken the magnum engine is almost a bolt in replacement to the "LA" you would nead to swap the intake to a carb. there are several magnum 4bbl intakes avalible. the magnum 360 is ballanced differently from the LA however

    freeze plugs

i personaly have NOT ben happy with the expandable freeze plugs the times i have used them. the first time i had one blow out on the race track and 2 people hit the wall in my water.. second time it seems to have sealed , but a pain to get in straight and tight. they are good for a quick fix but...

    340 ballance

you are correct that the balance is different, however i have installed a 71 318 cast crank and rods in a 340, with HEAVY trw forged pistons in a low buck 340 circle track motor and it has survived over 1500 laps turning 6000 -6300 rpm twice a lap. I checked a rod bearing after about 600 laps...

    360 Oil pan

yeah you "can" use the stock oil pump over, but being that you have to remove it anyways and the cost what? like $25?? for a stock replacememt, doesnt it make sence to stick in a new one? I never do a swap like that without sticking in a new oil pump and timing chain. i doubt you will ever regret it

how much power will stock rods survive?

when i was circle track racing my 360 with slivolite pistons I had the lighter "273" rods in it to save weight, I also had the crank lightned and internaly balanced. this combo would see 6500 and back to around 2000 around 100 times a night and I was never worried about the rods. when i did blow...

    340 ballance

look behind the right engine mount. the casting date of your block can be found there. best wat to tell if its internaly or externaly is by the vibration dampener as already stated. IMO external balance is just stupid! i NEVER will rebuild a 340 with an external balanced crank (unless its a #...
