    That's a pretty simple swap to do yourself, if you have the tools and a way to lift the motor out. It's not near as hard as many think, and you only need basic hand tools.

    You'd have to tear your engine apart and see how much damage was done before you'd know if yours is fixable, and how much it would cost. You should be able to get a reman long block from a local machine shop for a lot less than NAPA.

    Did you furnish all this stuff? What exactly did they furnish? The only things I see missing are rods and bearings and valve covers. If you supplied all this and they charged you 10k, I hope they kissed you at least once while they were tapping it.......

    I've seen several cars caught on fire using starting fuel or ether. Carb cleaner is a better choice, or map gas or propane.

    Also, not sure what you've been doing to get it to run, but if there's been a bunch of gas in the cylinders with no fire, you may have washed the oil off the cylinders and rings. That can make you lose compression too sometimes. A few drops of oil in the cylinder will help, if that's the case.

    Loosen the rockers and blow air in the cylinder. That'll tell you if the valves are bent or not seating correctly.

    Usually if it's 180* off, it will backfire or sputter. To turn it, simply loosen the distributor, raise it up slightly, and turn the rotor 180*..... It may not be 180* out, it may just need the housing rotated a little one direction or the other. Pull the # 1 plug and make sure it's on the...

    Seals can be replaced without pulling the heads. Does the car have duals? Seems to me that both sides would be smoking if it was the fuel pump.....

    Cam bearings are easy to install if you have the tool. I wouldn't attempt it without the tool though.

    I always turn it over a few times, and try to make sure everything is oiling good. You can't over do it.
