    318 ideas..opinions please.

Sounds like you're doing it right except the cam....I would run something in the 250+ at .050" range in a solid....roller if you can afford it. If you want big power you need to spin it to 7000+ And make sure the heads are ok....they tend to crack

Crate motor prices, Who's smoking crack???

While the prices have gone up, they were never cheap. Mopar crates have always been way over-priced. Those of us who can build our own are fine...those that can't need to deal with reputable builders....like Bob Mazzolini in SoCal. http://www.bobmazzoliniracing.com/

Is it only me or are Roller Rockers noisey ?

The aluminum rockers from comp are supposed to be good. If you bolt on the stamped steel you can't adjust. If you have the correct pushrods you can try it but I don't think it's your rockers that are the problem. I would check and play with preload first.

Max overbore for LA 340 block? .060" too much??

IMO, boring is to clean up the cylinder bore. Increase your cubes with stroke. If you are going for max cubes, you're probably going for max power...thin walls aint good for that. And I was going by memory on the chevy ratio...either way, it aint good.

Max overbore for LA 340 block? .060" too much??

Someone asked the rod ratio of a small block chevy...it sux at 1.52 (350) The head gasket issue with a big overbore comes from block flex. As stated, that problem is pretty much eliminated with good hardware and mls gaskets. As stated, running hot can be fixed with a good cooling system.

    1989 la 318

Why would he have to change his rockers to run a flat tappet hyd cam in that engine? I think all you need is the cam, lifters, pushrods and valve springs. The 340 intake will have bigger intake ports than the 318 heads.

    Stainless fasteners any good?

HSS (high speed steel), cobalt, and carbide are different drills, each progressively harder. Slow speed applies to all steels, the harder the slower, so stainless (depending on which one) can be drilled a bit faster than others. WD-40 does work but a real cutting oil is better. Hopefully you...

money, you can use custom parts that were originally designed for a sbc, but you really need to know what you're doing. Best bet is to decide what you want based on your needs and your wallet and go from there. If you are not gonna stroke it then the smaller journals don't do anything for ya...
