Thanks 71 Dustar. I was putting the bracket at the front of the alternator which was causing it to move back against the head and not fitting right. I'll try it according to your set up.

When I had the alternator tested at Advance Auto before I bought it, we ground the one field terminal that had the larger spade. It was the one nearest the battery terminal. I just hooked mine up yesterday but haven't had time to run the engine yet but it should be fine.

I just picked up the other day a new alternator from Advance Auto and it has a total of three connections instead of the two I had on the old one. I read somewhere that you connect the two and ground the third. Is this right?

Has anyone used the chrome bracket on a 273 (see link)? My engine is a 65 and I'm trying to figure out how to use them. Pic's if you have would be great...
