I don't know how I would have disabled the alternator. I tested the coil feed with a meter on the positive side with ign off; it was zero. After I jump the car and its running it holds between 12 and 13 running. The battery is probably 5 years or older.

Well, the good news is I have 0 at the coil when off.... The bad news is my battery is on its last leg. I had it tested and its barely holding a charge.I wanted to upgrade anyways so I guess it's time. Any suggestion on cold cranking amps? There's a 600 in it now because that's what was in it...

Fixed! I had two exposed wires where the wire bundle passes through the wiper motor housing. Some resoldering and heat shrink tube has everything back to normal. Thanks everyone! Thanks Kim for the schematics too!

Right now I have everything out on my bench. It's all pretty dirty so I'm going clean all the electrical connections. What grounds the switch itself? I have an extra spade pronge with nothing on it?

What might this mean? The more I read about this the more my head spins. Looks like my weekend plans just got some electrical gremlin chasing added to them.

Interesting turn of events... I now have a faint ticking sound coming from the switch every 30 seconds. It is not engine rpm driven and I can feel the tick by placing my finger on the switch knob even with the wipers off. Any ideas?

Any ideas why my wipers will not return to their home position? Worked fine yesterday, but today keep running when I turn them off and when they do stop don't return home. Electrical or mechanical? Clark

Everything is clean from paint. I replaced the starter with new this morning and it turns over and starts much better. Thanks everyone!

Everything is really clean and tight. I had it all out 3 weeks ago to rebuild the engine and clean everything. Like I mentioned, it only does it periodically. I do believe the starter is the original and is probably due for replacement.

Ok, I just replaced my relay with new and I still occasionally get a single "click" when I go to start my auto 318. After the click, I'll turn the ignition a second time and it will start right up. Starter issue or is there a solenoid some where going bad?

Ahh, pertronix inside... forgot that I replaced the points setup with it awhile back. There is a red and black going to it. It has a navy blue wire coming out of the wire bundle and then there is one that is about 6" long and attaches to a 1/2 x 1.5" cap that is bolted to the coil mounting...

Ok, I took my 318 out and rebuilt it and everything has been pretty smooth so far until today. I have everything back in it and for the life of me I can't remeber which wires go to which posts on my stock coil. There are 4: (1)Black and (1)Red to the distributer 1 that goes to a small canister...

Is it bad that I can distinctly remember the black ground wire that I forgot to reconnect! I even remember looking at it thinking "I need to reconnect that before I close the hood". Thanks guys!

I just pulled my front grill this week to repaint it. I bet I bumped a ground up front in the process. It only happens when the headlights are on. I'll dig in this weekend. Keep the suggestions guys. I'm a Jeep guy in my previous years, but I finally took the muscle car plunge this past week!

So I was on my voyage into work this morning with my 70 Dart I just bought. When I started it and turned on my headlights, I noticed that my green turn signal lights on my dash were both lit up, not blinking. Any ideas?
