Make sure the hot wire going to the mini starter isn't grounding out. If I remember right, the connection is pretty close to the block. Sometimes you have to position to get maximum clearance.

I hate to add any confusion to this but don't forget that this car has a tachometer. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the tach wire go to the coil too?
