I've not installed TTI's (headers) on a A-body, but Doug's have been the best fitting header I've installed on a Duster. :)

Hands down the best fitting headers I've ever installed took 40 seconds to hang both sides. OOOoops, you wanted A-body and that was a B-body. Sorry

this looks more normal to me. nut appears to be a 1/4 inch more towards the center, and the washer is larger and still farther away... maybe it's all in the pictures

That doesn't look right to me. The actual brackets just don't seem right. Also, the brackets hanging that far off the biscuit, and the nut so close to the wall.. just seems different to me for some reason

These cars are 50++ years old. Were they ever in a accident? How many motor swaps, like the OP here states a BB was in his car using elephant ears. So much to consider, and no way to make a header to compensate for all entire history of the car.

When a lot of things are "way outta wack" on known-to-fit-well headers, I look at two things: The engine placement and are the headers right (meaning wrong headers in box or wrong headers ordered).

i understand your frustration. I can tell you i could put power steering with a fist clearance on my cars. Is your engine sitting in the FACTORY location with FACTORY mounts or OEM replacement mounts - including the steel bracket and the rubber biscuit? Pictures of the mounts, etc would help...

In my opinion, the '72 & '73 340 manifold is a 360 manifold of the same era. Later the 360 manifolds had the smog ports.

Early A-bodies, now, are a different animal. But the OP has a '71, so not an issue. And yes, 340's/360's have the large ports for the small blocks. And, it really doesn't matter which years. A '89 360 exhaust port will be basically the same size as a '68 340. But the small block headers in...

I've not used TTI's. I know Doug's, Hedman's, Cyclones, and a few others I have used have "small block" headers. I've used on small port heads (273/318) and large port heads (340/360) and no issues.

I guess I was unaware that there are 273 headers, 318 headers, 340 headers and 360 headers. Maybe I've used 318 headers on my 340's?? :rolleyes: :eek:

I bet most headers for '67-76 A-bodies will work, but I highly recommend spending and extra couple hundred and getting Doug's 453.

I'd pick the mufflers that sound best to you. Even stock two stock mufflers will double the flow, so I would suggest you look at turbo mufflers for a little bit of a throaty sound but not two loud.

Just stick with your 318 manifolds and run dual exhaust. You aren't racing, most of your threads frustrate you and others... and that's just typing words. Just wait till you go to install headers, plus the price (I've seen how prices affect you).... just stick with the 318 manifolds.

Both fit well. Of all of your threads I've read, just stick to the manifolds on your 318. They will fit YOU the best.

RC12YC will get you the small hex and same heat range as the typical RN12YC. Then you can use a smaller socket. HOWEVER, I used the large plugs and socket for years. Cut a wrench short enough to work that fits the plug socket. I ran those type of headers for years and years. 90* boot...

The set I installed on my Duster was a dream compared to the cheapies, mainly the driver's side

Each to their own.... but I've never built a car for others to say "wow". My cars only have to please me, and if someone else likes it, fine. But you spend your money to please others, and they don't like it, you just waisted your money.

6" Diesel pipe, exit early straight up through the roof behind the driver. Good for 1000 hp on the street.

remove the starter for the header install regardless. I have Dougs and a mini starter (Dakota starter) on my Duster. Fitment was great.

I installed Dougs and for me they fit like a glove. Not one ding was needed.

Never tried TTI headers. I used their head pipes twice and they fit great. I installed Doug's and I can vouch that they fit much better than the cheapies. I would imagine TTI's would fit better than the cheapies too..... just so much is tied into the car - how the motor sits, and how...
