    Catalytic Converter Problem?

Hi 448Scamp this is the catch 22, I been trying to figure out what oil will have enough zinc for the 520 lift cam but not too much where it will be problematic for the cats, maybe someone can provide a recommendation.

    Catalytic Converter Problem?

Thanks Ccas, I just ordered a couple of Magnaflow metallic substrate converters and I'm going to do exactly that, get the car running as it should and then investigate the problem later. If my car is going to be eating converters at least the Magnaflow Converters are way cheaper then the Vibrant...

Thanks Syleng1, your telling me what I already feared, in other words make some changes or be prepared to be replacing cats on a regular basis.

    Catalytic Converter Problem?

The cats I'm running are from Vibrant Performance Gesi HO Series Part# 7525, the problem happened after driving on the highway for 28 miles at 60-65mph.

    Catalytic Converter Problem?

Syleng1, not a silly question, I'd be asking the same thing. I'm a double lung transplant recipient, had the cats installed to help lessen the fumes for health reasons, wasn't an easy decision to make at the time to have these installed on a car that would never have them in the first place...

    Catalytic Converter Problem?

Hi, I'm running dual Catalytic Converters on my 68 Cuda, I have a noise coming from the vehicle that sounds like a rattle snake or like someone shaking an empty can filled with sand or very small stones, I believe one the converters is on its way out, would you folks agree based on this symptom...

    For a 1968 Barracuda notchback

Have long tube Hooker headers (5902) on my 340 in my 68 Cuda and have power steering and they fit. Its not a straight forward install (then again what header is on an A body especially the driver side) I didn't need to modify anything other then running the center link in between the tubes on...

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

I'm waiting for Valvoline & Torco to get back to me, I have interest in the one product from Torco as shown.

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Hi Yellow Rose, I hoping a performance engine builder on here will post their thoughts in regards to my situation. If my cam lift wasn't as high then I wouldn't be as concerned. I believe Torco is synthetic which can't be run in a rebuilt engine till it hits 3000miles.

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Hi omahamoparguy, the lift on my cam is high (520), I might need a little higher zinc based oil for this reason then again want the hell do I know. The high flow cats are expensive about 340 U.S each, not something you want to replace soon. I talked to Vibrant Performance where these cats came...

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Hi Phreakish, there is a zinc replacement additive called Hyper Lube, not too many people are familiar with this stuff including myself, my engine is recently rebuilt and only has about 1500kms on it. I talked to a representative at Hyper Lube and was told that their product is not to be used...

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Hi yellow rose, I'm running cats due to health issues involving my respiratory system. Because of the cats this is the reason I'm asking what is the minimum ppm of zinc that is required for adequate protection for a high lift cam yet won't kill the converters anytime soon. Example: Valvoline VR1...

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Hi roccodart440, its a 68 Barracuda with a 340, with a crane cam with a 520 lift, cats are high flow from Vibrant Performance as shown in pic.

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

Good question, I have no idea how much zinc or over what duration of time it would take to ruin the cats. What is the happen medium, its like a catch 22, you need a certain amount of zinc especially with a high lift cam, but not too much that it will destroy the expensive high flow cats. What is...

Anyone running catalytic converters on car with flat tappet cam?

What type of oil does one use to ensure it has enough zinc to help protect the cam against wear, yet not too much zinc that it will damage the catalytic converters?

    Header Question

Thanks everyone for the responses, my hooker headers are ceramic coated inside and out, operating temperature on a cool summer day is 180 and on very hot humid day it climbs to 190-200, trans (727) temp is always at 150. Engine has about 600 miles on it so all fluids and tune up parts are fresh...

Hi Treblig, you are correct there are seals for the bumper brackets, these pieces are similar to the seal used between the inner quarter panel and filler tube. My car actually had these seals installed upon the restoration of the car over the last year.

Hi AJ, the symptoms I experienced after driving the car 45kms was excessive tiredness, felt a bit off and some lost appetite. Remflex Header Gaskets on a 340

Anyone using Remflex header gaskets on their 340 with power steering. My concern is the driver side header sits so close to the power steering gear with no room to spare, and these gaskets are thicker then the regular ones, so does this cause any issue after install with the header in relation...
