    Had steering box replaced...

Hopefully next week I'll find out. Its power steering. Maybe the box itself is bolted too tight to the pitman.

    Had steering box replaced...

Had my Dusters steering box replaced the other day. Feels much better than before, no play or slop. Only issue is when turning the steering wheel wont return back to its original position at all. When turning left it moves very slow back, but when turning right it dosnt move. I went to an empty...

    Question about steering issue

I am running 14" ralley wheels with cooper cobra tires. I beleive the fronts are 205/14 and 215's for the rear. May not be exact but around those numbers. Had them mounted/balanced a few years ago. I adjusted the torsion bars so the car sits a little lower than stock. But I dont think thats...

    Question about steering issue

I have a question regarding the steering on my '74 Duster. Its very loose/numb. It dosnt really have much play in it though. In 2007 the idler, pitman, ball joints were replaced as well as an alignment. Also tightened the top bolt on the steering box to remove some play. That helped a bit. The...

    What shocks are you using?

I have monroes on the front and KYBs in the rear. I did have monroes in the rear but had to replace from the exhaust hitting them during bumps and eventually trashing them. After getting the pipe bent I installed KYBs. Stiffened the ride a bit and feels great. Now im thinking about getting them...

Frame Connectors bolt in or weld in?

I have been considering purchasing the bolt in connectors from summit. Seems like everyone has welded them in. Would it be safe to bolt them in? My car is probably lucky to be making 300hp. So it's not a 1/4 monster. Just a comftorable crusier. I don't have a mig welder. Has anyone bolted these...

    Caster adjustment/ frontend setup

After reading through this post I was curious about the aligment specs for my '74 duster. I plan to get it re-align later this spring once I install the heavy duty tie-rod ends. I have a few other chassis mods such as sway bars and leaf springs. I have the stock specs in my service manual. But...

    Suspension mod question

I am thinking about upgrading my stock tie rod ends/sleeves with the larger ones from C-bodys. However, I have never done this on any car before so I am not sure what to expect. Is it a fairly easy job? Do I need any special tools? Any tips to perform this particular suspension modification...

    Chassis Improvement

I currently have front and rear sway bars and my car. I noticed a huge difference in handling. Even more so when we installed new shackels and shocks. "Galactic_eyes" What kind of subframe connectors do you have? Was it a big difference in handling? I have been debating getting a set through...

    Chassis Improvement

After reading through some of these threads on improving handling and cornering in our a-bodys, I got to thinking about an addition to increase those factors but not sure if it would work. It may sound like a dumb idea but there is only one way I can know though :-D Here is a picture of my...

    monroe vs kyb

I'll have to get under there and take a closer look this weekened. Who knows maybe it will just be a simple fix by tinkering with it a little. Thanks for the info.

    monroe vs kyb

The leaf springs are about a year old. The original ones were sagging real bad but the ones on there now are fine. It's the rear passenger side that thumps when I hit a decent size bump driving down the road. The guy who put the exhaust on didn't do the best job bending the pipes so nothing...

    monroe vs kyb

Are kyb shocks stiffer than monroe? I have monroes all the way around but the rear seems to soft. When I hit some bumps I think the exhaust slightly rubs the shocks. Will kyb shocks improve the ride. Its a '74 duster by the way. Thanks

    any suspension tips?

Is there some cheap tips for improving the suspension. Such as taking off from a stop. Would better shocks help than my current monroes. I was looking at pinion snubbers, but can't find any for an 8 1/4 rear-end. My leaf springs are new as are the factory style shackles. I like "just...

    torsion bar play

Wow - I didn't know the cars could go that low. Right now it's probably at around the stock height. The picture shown is from the nats. But I noticed this evening the stance was awful. The back end was down and the front end was up. So I adjusted the front down over an inch and helped a lot. I...

    torsion bar play

This evening I adjusted the torsion bars on my duster and wondering how far I can adjust them. I lowered the car over an inch from before and looks so much better. My question is, just how low can it go?

    Sway bars?

I bought one of those kits but have yet to install it. I thought it was such a good deal. I have a 1974 Duster but the kit I got was for I think 70-72. I figured they would still work. At the time they didn't have a kit for '73 and up. But after seeing "redfastback" answer I probably shoudl...

    frame damage

Thanks "jjr426" i'll have to think about that though. They want $180 a side. Although a picture didn't come in. But at least there is a company that makes those.

    frame damage

While doing body work on my duster I noticed some frame damage on the rear right side. Where the shackel goes up it appears to be bolted onto a box of some sort that is welded onto the frame rail. I attached a picture but it's kinda hard to see that the box is almost gone due to rust. I am...

    steering box installation

Hi - I have a 74 Duster and am think about getting a new power steering box for it. The drivers exhaust manifold would obviously have to come off, but other than that is it an easy job. It's a 318 car. Has anyone here done it before? Thanks

    sway bar kit question

Will a sway bar kit for an A-Body up to 1972 fit an A-Body from 1974 (Duster) I would imagine the suspension would be almost the same during all those years. It's a front and rear bar with all hardware from Addco. Thanks

    sway bar? big difference

Anyone here put a sway bar on there A-Body. I am thinking about getting a front and rear sway bar for my 74 Duster. I have heard they greatly reduce body roll and improve overall ride quality. Any opinions. Thanks

    steering box adjustment

I have heard there is a way to adjust the steering box. I have a 74 duster 318 with factory power steering. I think there is a certain bolt that can be turned for adjustment so there is less play in the steering. I figured this would be the place to ask. Thanks

    torison bars

I did not use super stock springs. Just stock 5-leaf replacements. The bolt I am talking is the one sticking out beneath the lower control arm. It still wouldn't turn with the front end jacked up. I'll try soaking it in something. Thanks

    torison bars

I recently had new leaf springs installed on my Duster, and the guy who put them on said after a short time, the rear will go down about 1 inch for a nice stance. About a week or two after that I noticed the drivers side of the car was sitting about 1 inch lower than the other side. I was very...
