All right, is there any good 5/16 fuel line anywhere now?

I wish I could say I had a hose leak on a 426 Hemi, but nope, this was on my 1969 Dart with a 273. Sometime in the last couple of years while the car was getting put back together, I installed new reproduction fuel lines at the engine and new hose sections and a filter. This is the old-style...

    Holley 1920 accelerator pump issues

I second that. Holley 1920 carbs have all the typical Holley problems with the metering block, the diaphragm-type accelerator pump that has a convenient leak hole to dump fuel on the manifold when it ruptures, a bowl gasket under fuel, a side-hung nitrophyl float...it's just a problem looking...

    Carter 750 float level

Speaking of Einstein, it's "hear", not "here". Guess what, Einstein...how about doing it the way the carburetor manufacturer instructs? I've looked through the service manuals and I still can't find where it says "set the floats parallel just like Dana says". Can you help us find that? If you...

Bench testing two cheap eBay fuel sending units

That is interesting information, thank you. What intrigued me was that neither of the sending units I tested behaved the same tested on the bench as they did on the car. On the car they drop off from Full much too quickly and in fact read 1/4 tank with approximately 12 gallons in the tank. On...

Bench testing two cheap eBay fuel sending units

Sender on the left is new, the one on the right is 4 years old. Look the same otherwise. I also forgot to mention that I still have the tank assembly from my old '73 and it also was garaged and also had an accurate gas gauge.

Bench testing two cheap eBay fuel sending units

Hi there: For a few years I've been dealing with the frustration of an inaccurate gas gauge on my '68 Valiant after I replaced the tank and sending unit with moderately-priced aftermarket items. I've had the same issue of "drops from Full like a rock within 30 miles" that several other...

    Early AFB zip kit?

Hey guys: Did Carter offer a zip kit for the early AFB? Early AFB refers to the 1958-67 version with the smaller horn size. Would anyone know the applicable number as well? Thanks!

AFB starves on the secondary side

Hey everyone: I'm having an issue with the 1966 AFB on my 383. To begin, this is the original carburetor to the engine, and it is one of the early-style small pattern AFB carbs with NO COUNTERWEIGHT. It never had one. The issue is: the engine starts to starve for fuel when you stay in the...

How does this spark plug look like to you?

Hey guys: Been working on a slight drivability issue. Very likely need to tweak some carb jets one way or the other. Stock low compression engine, pulled this plug after a mix of city and highway driving. How does the jetting look to you? Thanks.

Rev 318 in park, slows down and stalls..case study.

Hey guys: I'm sorry it's been a while, but here is the diagnosis video. Lots of good guesses, but they were just that..guesses...and everyone got it wrong. I assumed the wrong thing as well. Car runs excellent now once the issue was identified and corrected. Enjoy!

Rev 318 in park, slows down and stalls..case study.

Here is an update after spending most of a day going through process of elimination stuff. 1. I did pinch the fuel return at the filter and there was no change. 2. I removed the gas cap. No change. 3. I removed the fuel pump inlet line at the frame rail and used my electric pump to pull fuel...

Rev 318 in park, slows down and stalls..case study.

Hey guys: I thought I would post this as a "case study", since it's not technically on an A-body, but my '87 Plymouth Gran Fury. The backstory is that this is a very original car with 98K. When I bought it late last year, it had a terrible mid-range stumble that was predictable and...

Why does this Holley 2280 have a "port" directly into the venturi?

Hey guys: Well, I think I might know the answer, but some clarification wouldn't hurt. One of my 318's is running a mid-80's Holley 2280 2bbl, which is a nice carb. It is not a Lean Burn version. It has a...let's call it a "fitting" on the passenger side of the carb exactly where...

    Fuel pump outlet location

Hey guys, I have a question that I didn't see answered already. I have seen small-block stock replacement fuel pumps with the outlet facing back toward the rear nearly parallel with the inlet and those with the outlet facing more forward. Which does an AVS-equipped 340 use and what is the...

    AVS kits?

Hey guys: Are there any appreciable differences in AVS kits? I'm going through my 1970 4937S and I don't see much different gasket-wise than the 4401S on my '68 383 other than the idle compensator that's in the rear of the carb body under the airhorn. I get can get kits from flea bay cheaper...

May have to send this Edelbrock packing

Thanks very much for the info, that's what I needed to know. I have the spring kit, that's it. The idle drifts some and it still has a lazy response to the pedal off-idle. Doesn't try to die, but there a 1-1000 2-1000 here we go type of reaction. The T-quad may not work with this cam so I'll...

May have to send this Edelbrock packing

Well, I've been running a 600 Edelbrock on my warmed-over 318 in the Dart. It's been a love-hate relationship to say the least. My car doesn't get driven much since it's still under "renovation", and if I let it sit a month without running, one side of the idle circuit in that carb will plug...

    Carbon canister

If you want to know how it all was without any guesswork, get a copy of the CHRYSLER factory service manual for that year. It shows every vacuum diagram for every possible engine combination. Federal, California, high-altitude, etc. I don't have a copy for that year or I would provide it, but...

So it takes tall jets both on the primaries and secondaries? Yes it's a restoration and has to be done correctly.

    Carter AVS expert info needed

Hey guys: I'm in the middle of overhauling a '68 AVS, and I discovered a couple problems. First it appears to have the wrong primary jets in it, in this case regular AFB style 386 jets, where this carb should have the tall 398 primary jets for use with the 3-stage rods. What's interesting...

Carter 2BBL carb- I am stuck

The float level for 1971 Carter BBD is 1/4" measured from the lip of the float bowl to the crown(highest point) of each float. I know it says to invert the carb yadda yadda but you don't have to. Light push the float arm against the needle valve and take your measurement. Luckily I keep...

    Carter BBD Help

Right, timing too far retarded can cause no idle. However the BBD is known to plug the idle fuel pickup tubes. That's the part inside the primary venturi held down by 2 screws. I'd suggest pulling the carb to remove those, otherwise you could lose a screw down the intake. Pull the assembly...

Carter 2BBL carb- I am stuck

There's lots of good info here. I'd like to add a few notes: To start out with, as another member mentioned already, there is some confusion about how to adjust mixture screws. There is no preset number of turns out or in. When you see that mentioned, that is in reference to a baseline to...

Looking for an education in fuel tank venting

The deal with HOW the tank is vented goes back to the early days of emissions controls. The tanks are all vented, otherwise there would be pressure issues on hot days. The early cars vented through the fuel cap. In the late 60's the government started clamping down on fuel vapor emissions, so...

    Help identifying carb please

They probably just couldn't supply enough BBD carbs since so many vehicles were going out the door with 2bbl 318 engines. The 360/400 used a Holley 2bbl but I think the bolt pattern was different and it wouldn't just swap over. The rochester version is pretty rare. I have one in my collection.

    Help identifying carb please

Yep, that's a 1971 Rochester 2G for Dodge/Plymouth 318 applications. It will not interchange with GM versions because the baseplate pattern is different. Good carb.

    Non Mopar carburetor opinion

A few things: 1. Not trying to piss off the above poster, but 4V Cleveland heads are the worst choice possible for a truck. The ports are huge and designed for an engine in a light car that can make use of high-rpm power. That is NOT what you need in a heavy truck. You want torque bias...
