    Body work/metal work magician needed

Great news! One of my old friends from my Shelby Dodge days is pretty sure he can make me a custom color sport stripe that will match the originals on the car. Looks like the majority of the original paint may get to stay right where it is. So much for a glass front end. NOS fender here I come.

One of the guys on the Maryland Mopars forum is trying to track down a number for a vinyl graphics place that can do color-matched custom stripes. Does anyone here know of someone who does this? If I can get a stripe that matches the originals then I can just paint and stripe the NOS fender I...

There is no way to get the stripe to match and the paint will not really match either even if the color is perfect. There is no way to make new paint look 40 years old. The new fender will definitely look newer. I have looked into trying to get all the stripes off but saving the paint, doing...

Yes, I found a pair of NOS fenders. I am also considering glass. I just want to make sure there is no one out there that can save it before I strip off original paint that is in such great shape.

OK guys, I am still mulling over what to do with my car. As most of you know, my original paint 383 S was hit by a moron in Carlisle last summer. Before I commit to stripping off the original paint and getting the whole car done I am going to spend some time looking for a magician who can...

anybody know where i can get this scoop from?

The Summit one looks the same as the one that was on my car. I have never installed one so there are other guys here more qualified to answer those questions.

anybody know where i can get this scoop from?

That is very similar to the old "MOPAR Pro Stock" scoop. As someone else said, Summit has one that is only $47. That is the scoop that my car's original owner had on my car when he was racing it in the early 70s:

    Who makes good Fiberglass parts?

No, we came to the conclusion that the whole car is going to have to be painted so I am going full resto sometime after the holidays so it will be ready for spring.

    &%*/^#%*@*&% Disaster Update

Well guys, kudos to State Farm. They paid for everything, even the NOS fender, without any fight or comment. They even gave me a statement in writing that if it ends up that the entire car must be painted in order for it to look right (which is VERY likely) that I should just have the shop send...

An update. So far it looks like State Farm is going to be great about this. They didn't even balk at the NOS fender. I have been thinking long and hard about what to do and I still have not decided whether or not to paint the whole car but since the "all original" status is gone I have decided...

I guess you could say I lucked out compared to you even though I sure don't feel lucky. Mine is not totalled (if it was there would probably be murder charges related) and if it was I would have gotten about 6 times as much as I have in it. It pays to have bought a rare car in great shape back...

Hey guys. I FOUND AN NOS '69 BARRACUDA FENDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is even better than that is that State Farm said "That is the only one around so I guess that is the one we will pay for". SWEET.

The State Farm rep came out yesterday. He was a genuine car guy. He totally understood trying to maintain as much originality as possible, that I wanted to make the decisions as to what does or doesn't get replaced or painted, and the importance of having the new stripes match the originals...

There are a few on Ebay but I have not gotten one yet. The ones on Ebay have pretty low resolution pictures so it is a gamble as usual. Thanks for asking. Do you have a nice one?

I always thought that if this happened I would pound the idiot into an molten mass unrecognizable as formerly human. I guess I have mellowed with age. He was driving a POS 94 Grand Am that he has another year of payments on so I think that not only is it totalled but he will get less for it...

The idiot was sitting off to the right side of the road where there was a road on the left. As I came up behind him I saw him looking at me in his mirror so I moved over the the left a little to pass. As I got up to him he actually looked over his shoulder at me and proceeded to turn left from...

Here are some shots of my formerly mint car: Just look at the reflectivity in that 40 year old paint. And the one that worries me the most...although it looks like it returned to its original position, the shock tower was pushed far enough over to dent 2 of the header tubes...

Yes, RF hubcap found but fattened. I still enjoyed the car. I drove it, I had lots of fun on the street, I just didn't make track passes much anymore. When I was young I used to launch the car at 4500 and shift at 7000 (short stroke plus balanced and blueprinted engine with solid lifters) and I...

Thanks for the support everyone. I keep the car at my dad's place and I haven't seen it since I got it towed there Friday night. I'm not sure this has really sunk in yet and it may when I go take pictures and look it over more closely tomorrow . I have had this car for over 26 years. As far as...

Thanks John. I am hoping to have everything lined up before State Farm even takes a look at the car. The only bright side here is that I am not in jail for assault or murder like I always thought I would be if this happened. Maybe it was shock, but I was strangely composed and even polite. Amazing.

I have been with them since 1984 and they have alwys been great. I am not worried about them. I am lucky that the guy who hit me is with them too. The only thing that worries me is the likelyhood that the replacement side stripes will not be the same color as my almost 40-year-old originals.

    clay bar / wax ?

Clay bars are great. They will even remove paint overspray if you have been unlucky (or careless) enough to end up with some on the paint. I have used bars from Mothers and Griot's garage with great success.
