Is there a "Master Kit" out there for window felts, weatherstrip, window rubbers?

I`m doing a complete restoration on a 71 Duster and will need "every" piece of weatherstripping, body plugs, door handle and locks gaskets, mirror, tail lights gaskets, marker light gaskets, filler neck gasket ect, also. Sure would be nice to click on one part # from a merchant and have it all...

You might also be able to take a heat gun and warm up the gasket on that side and quickly close the lid and see if it sits flat while its warm.

    1973 Duster trunk lid alignment

The gasket might be the problem. Can you maybe tape down the gasket with some shipping tape on just that side. I`d de-stick the tape a little by sticking it to your jeans a couple times, don`t want to pull any of that nice paint off! I believe the factory gasket was v-shaped, but i could be wrong.

Is the left hinge binding or hitting something in the trunk? Can you get through the back seat and pull down on the hinge by hand while its closed? Love that color! What color is it?

Can you remove the left bumper on the lid and try adjusting it to where you want it. If the bumper is to tall it wont adjust properly.

LOWER QUARTER PANEL TO ROCKER PANEL SEAM

Thanks Valleyant, I had a feeling that is what they did. Both of my 73s have the visible seam but the 71 i`m restoring was leaded over. Just wanted to be sure so that I could duplicate the factory seam. Funny the subtle difference ya find from year to year!

LOWER QUARTER PANEL TO ROCKER PANEL SEAM

Thanks for the pic, it`s making me think that the early Dusters had the seam leaded over. Hopefully a few more owners will chime in!

LOWER QUARTER PANEL TO ROCKER PANEL SEAM

Thanks, Yes, I`m trying to duplicate it the way the factory did it in 71. Just looking to see if anyone has some pics of a factory seam or no seam on a 71 that they could show me.

LOWER QUARTER PANEL TO ROCKER PANEL SEAM

Probably been answered before but can someone tell me if the lower quarter panel to rocker panel seam should be filled and smoothed over on an early 71 Duster? I have a couple 73s and the seam is definetly not smoothed over on either of them but the seam on the 71 is, and it appears to be leaded...

Quarter window gaskets not quite like originals

These pics might help. Its hard to see the foam block in the pic above but you can see it on the left. You can see that its way thicker than foam tape. This is a pic of the factory 1973 Body Service Manual and shows that the factory did seal that gasket to the quarter panel. I know the new...

Quarter window gaskets not quite like originals

I do have a pic that I will dig up for you when I get a chance. The tape won’t work as it is not thick (tall) enough to hold the gasket sideways against the quarter panel, that’s where the tall foam blocks come in. The original foam blocks that may still be there shrink up big time over the 40...

Quarter window gaskets not quite like originals

Not sure it will help but I replaced the gaskets on my 73 Duster quarter windows and found that i needed to make sure that i replaced and re-glued the 2 styrofoam blocks that sit on top of the channel that the bottom part of the gasket sits on. Those foam blocks hold up the bottom of the gasket...

    1970 Duster Windshield

Go to a local car show or stop into a body shop that you know that restores classic cars and ask some of the guys, one of them will tell you who to use to order the glass. No way you should have to pay over $200! Someone local will help you out.

I just intalled new door handles and I need help

Thanks guys for the ideas, i`ll poke around in there and see whats going on. I`ll take a look for that allen key adjustment, i didnt know that was there. I`m figuring it has to have something to do with the new lock cylinders as both door locks act exactly the same way.

I just intalled new door handles and I need help

Thanks, ya i had to change over the tabs when i was installing the new ones. I thought all was well as the push-pull knob seemed to be working up and down fine, but i never thought to check the operation with the key before buttoning up the doors. That will teach me! If I remember correctly you...

I just intalled new door handles and I need help

All the linkage is connected correctly, seems like the throw from the lock cylinders is to short, its the same on both sides. guess i will try disconnecting the cylinders and see if it locks normally without them hooked up. Just a pain in the butt when new parts dont work!

I just intalled new door handles and I need help

I installed new door handles and and lock cylinders and the doors open fine but wont lock. If you use the key to try to lock/unlock it seems that the linkage only moves 1/2 way, same thing if using the push-pull knob. Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

    Lower Rear Quarter Patch Repair

Not much harm in cutting off the rot areas on the quarters, you need to know if you need a skin or complete qtr. It will help a lot if you make sure that the doors and trunk lid are lined up as close to perfect with the qtr panels before cutting big pieces off, it will help you get the new metal...

    Lower Rear Quarter Patch Repair

If you have access to a decent Mig welder and set it up to use .023 wire then practice on some scrap metal you will be fine! Lower Rear Quarter Patch Repair

Might wanna order a couple qtr skins and use what you need, think they run around $270 each. Those areas will be tough to fab up out of sheet metal, but you could use some of the extra material from the skins to fabricate up those inner rockers that look like they are toast. Your gonna want to...
