    1973 Dart Swinger Owners + 17" Rims

No rubbing anywhere at full lock. I haven't taken a turn at 35 mph+. That might reveal new issues. The car isn't currently registered or inspected, so it will be a month or so before it'll be state inspection ready. I'll update then. I wish I could get the front end a bit lower, but the tires...

Sorry for the delay. Family in town, cutting a hole in my hood and changing the cursed wiper bushings on the Dart (still not done). Hammered the fender lip in, just past the fender trim and did a little gentle tugging on the edge of the wheel opening and the tires now clear in the front...

    1973 Dart Swinger Owners + 17" Rims

Wheels and tires are on. 245/45-17 on 17x7 rims with 0 offset fit in the rear with room to spare. If I wanted to work the fender lip, I could probably go with a 255 rear tire. No spacers were needed. I spent so much time thinking about the rears that I didn't pay close attention to the...

Two of the tires (the 245/45-17s) are coming direct from Yokohama, so it might be next week before they get in. Plus the plug on my slip yoke is leaking on the X-pipe (picture smoke plumes). I gotta cure that before I drive across town to Discount Tire. I should have that fixed this weekend.

My AR wheels and Baer .375 spacers are in. I also ordered my tires today. My local Discount Tire has a great manager who agreed to order in a couple different sets of rear tires to see what fits best. I'm going to try 235/50-17 and 245/45-17 tires. The 245s should have the same section width...

14" tires WERE DID THEY GO !!STAND UP

One of the many reasons why I'm now going to be rolling on 17s.

14" tires WERE DID THEY GO !!STAND UP

No doubt. I have 14" in Rallye wheels. With the strain on 14" decent tire availability, they might as wells be wooden wheels. 14s are caveman era to tire companies for some reason.

Also, I think I'm going to add a 1/4" spacer on each side, in the rear, to better center the wheels in the wheel wells. Will I need longer studs with 1/4" spacers? Doing so should allow for 1" of outside sidewall flex and 3/4" of inboard sidewall flex. I'm pretty sure 3/4" is about the...

I'm moving forward with my wheel and tire order. FRONT: American Racing T70R 17X7, 0 (4") Offset Wheels. Yokohama S.drive 215/50-17 Tires. This will maintain the same tire diameter as the 205/70-14 tires currently on the car. REAR: American Racing T70R 17X7, 0 (4") Offset Wheels...

I apologize for not keeping this post up do date. There hasn't been anything to post. I'm hoping another member near by will sell me his rims...hint hint...but no word yet. If he isn't into it, I'll move forward with my Soft 8 order. I'll update as things progress.

    1973 Dart Swinger Owners + 17" Rims

Alright, took a crapton of measurement last night. Each side differs some, so I'll only list the "tight" side. First off, I was totally wrong about my rim size. I thought I had a 5.5" rallye wheels. It appears I have a 7" rallye wheels. For the sake of simplicity (yeah right!) I'll focus on...

What Tires on Original Rally Wheels 14" ?

I've got 235/60-14 on the rear of my 73 Swinger. It's also pretty low and I have experienced zero rubbing on inner fender, leaf springs, or fender edge.

Using the site above, it looks like the max size 17" tire/wheel combo is as follows... Front: 17X8 rims w/ up to 4.5 b.s. and 225/45-17 tires Rear: 17X9 rims w/ up to 5.3 b.s. and 235/45-17 tires I assume these measurements are allowances based on stock ride height.

Here's a cool site they mentioned in the latest issue of Car Craft. It gives parameters for wheel fitment on specific vehicles. http://www.rimsntires.com/wheelfit.jsp?sized=17&sizew=8.0&pcd=5x114.3&offset=0 They also have a comparison chart where you can plug in your current wheel/tire combo...

I think I'm going to move on from the rallye wheel look. I still like it, but it's time for something a little new and raw. More than likely I'll have the Soft 8 wheels powdered a different color than the standard black. Maybe gunmetal or gold

Looks like a cool tool. Check the instruction manual below. If I had a tire shop I could see owning one of these. However, I have to weigh the $80+ shipped cost for just one use. http://www.percyshp.com/techinfo/WheelRite/TechInfo.pdf

    1973 Dart Swinger Owners + 17" Rims

I think I've done a pretty thorough site search for maximum wheel and tire width that will fit a stock (no mini tub/leaf spring relocation) 73 Dart Swinger w/ 17s and I've come up with very little, take it to the bank, info on the subject. Well, unless it's those grey Mustang wheels...GOBS of...

    Budget 17" Wheel Option

Before I go full bore ahead w/ these rims, I have a question. I'm wondering if I would be better off biting the bullet and buying some zero offset aftermarket 17 x 8 rims w/ the correct advertised 5 x 114.3 bolt spacing instead of the steel LX wheels (of which there is much debate a hand...

    Budget 17" Wheel Option

Good point. However, I already have my wheels, in hand, for 50 clams. I would think the crown vic stockers would be way cheaper than $200+ for a set. Especially since half the crown vics they came from wind up painted candy w/ 24s. Just looked up crown vic stockers on c-list Austin, Houston, and...
