    dirt track'in a A-body

I used to run a dirt modified that was actually quicker with the 318 than the 360. The 360 was such a torque monster it was tough to hook up the spec tire with certain track conditions. We only ran 1/4 mile ovals, and the 318 revved a little quicker pulling it off the turns better. We had a...

post badest stock stroke small blocks

Well gang, I'm content to steer this thing back into the fun groove. I appreciate everyones take on the subject. No need to bump up our blood pressures. After all, we've got work and politics to do that for us. I sure would have liked to have seen that 65 before it got dinged. Paul always...

post badest stock stroke small blocks

Just throwing a mittful of money around doesn't guarantee fast. Stock and Super Stock is full of regular 40 hour a week working stiffs who have worked long and hard to be competitive. Yes, they're more expensive than a bracket buggy, but while a racer can be rightly proud of his 11 second...

post badest stock stroke small blocks

Read this and check back in. It's sometime hard to fathom just how impressive these cars are. They're basically allowed headers, cam and intake in Super Stock. Stock allows just the cam and headers. The rest is the skill (and daring) of the owner/builder. Matt's my hero: all 273 cubic...

    SCCA Prepared C FABO Build

Hey Bad, check into a metal fuel cell with rollover check valves. For what you're doing they might be a better choice. It'll impress the tech guy too. A circle track outfit like Speedway has them in various sizes and dimensions. Looks like a fun project,ya got me thinking........\\:D/

    Looking for this Hero

It came to me in a vision.:prayer: The reason the "Dodge Duster" won, is it must have the RARE factory 340 HEMI option, with the "HEMI" transmission out to the "HEMI" rear end! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Really, I learned (endured) all about it at Goodguys from the gent featured below. RE: 1965...

    Help with sb combo

I think your asking a lot from 93 octane with 12:1 squeeze. For an intake, and these are personal preferences, are a LD340 style dual or a Strip Dominator for a single. I swear by, again personal likes, Comp Cams when working in the .500 to .570 ranges. I'd crunch the numbers on the Comp...

    Racing with Cragar ss wheels

If you found a virgin set of Cragar S/S skinnys with a 4" bolt pattern, they won't be unilug. You'll need a smaller shank lug. And if you haven't purchased them, hurry up, I've seen 15 x 3 1/2 used, with a 4.5 bp, fetch a grand.

    Mopar Street Stock?????

Burnt's right. Those manuals would be worth finding. The basics haven't changed much. If you can find the line drawings/specs/blueprints for the Mopar circle track chassis from the seventies, and can find someone to build it, you can skin it with a Mopar body. Some racers on other boards still...

    Mopar Street Stock?????

Anybody, and I mean anybody running circle track is gonna tell you three things:1) You're an idiot for running a Mopar 2) you're gonna spend a fortune (but they'll be glad to take your money, build it like a Chevy, and then tell they told you so..) 3) You'll never get it to work, build a...

    would this pass chassis certification?

If you rig is fast enough to need a roll bar, then do it right. If you're doing it for the "cool" factor, just bolt a chrome 2 point in it. Trying to compromise between a race car and a street rod leaves you with neither. I've actually found it easier to build one of each.

    most hp from std block

What Leon said. I've had two early 70's 360 blocks in two different race cars. One, about a 400 horse bracket motor, has been in the car for thirteen years, probably has 1500 passes on it. The other has, my guess, 500 runs in 5 years, with about 550 horses. It's not hard blocked ( it needs...

This Post is Not for the faint of heart!

Jay Payne is Brad Anderson's son-in-law, so my theory is he doesn't have to worry about trashing alky Hemi's.:-D He's a down-to-earth, friendly racer. Gave us the tour of his rig at Dallas one year, got my son dirty changing bearings (he loved it, wish he'd work on Dad's stuff that hard....)

    Seems a little slow...

Try some 12 or even 18" collectors on the open headers for low end torque. Also my low compression .484 cammed 8:1 small block likes to leave from about 1200 rpm. It seems to hit the suspension and converter harder this way and helps the 60 foot. My car weighs 3400# with me in it.

    Help For An A-Body Racer

I thank you for the updates and corrections there Doug. I hadn't realized Ken was a hired gun for that weekends event. The bad news is that a pristine A-body is now scrap, and Ken faces some extended mending time.

    Help For An A-Body Racer

Ken Etter destroyed his Demon at a division points race. I don't have the exact details, but apparently hit the wall so hard it wedged the front wheel and tire between the door and the rocker panel. Ken had just been laid off and therefore lost his insurance. He's beat up pretty fair and will...

    13's, stock '71 318 short block.

I think I've got a couple of .484 Purple Shafts floating around here someplace if you're interested. I have one in an 8:1 360 in a 3300# wagon and it goes mid/low 13's all day. Stock J heads and an Offy dual plane 360 intake, 1 5/8's headers, mufflers, pump gas, Holley DP. Been in the car for...
