    Happster's '72 scamp build!

Yeah, the poor old girl hasn't got much attention lately. i don't have the shop space any more, and so i don't really have any area to work on her. she just sits under her cover waiting for me to get the money to put into her. times are tough, as i don't have a job currently, so she may be...

TWISTED FISH - SS/AH Build Pixs

thanks for the info, i'm a big fan of overbuilding things myself. i was jsut curious about what yours was made out of and its thickness. a lot of offroad guys who aren't going high speed and stuff seem to run .120 wall DOM steel for the cages/rollbars, that's just why i asked! looks like an...

TWISTED FISH - SS/AH Build Pixs

maybe this is a standard deal, but in my offroad related rollcage world people use different thicknesses of tube for the cage. what thickness is that which you are using? there sure is a lot of it!

    Emily's '72 Scamp

wow, that paint looks great! a lot of people don't understand that wet sanding makes a HUGE difference in the finish. it's all about the prep work! wish my scamp's paint looked that good... guess that's what i get for having original :D it came out really well, definitely something to be proud of!

yeah, i think that it will satisfy my need for speed! the machine shop is supposed to be getting me a core to start with sometime soon. we shall see. can't wait to get rolling with it!

ahhh good to know. yeah, most 360s are truck engines. i'll probably run across one soon. i will look into that U joint too.

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

that is a good idea, but really, i couldn't ever justify getting one of those things shipped. there are plenty of 360s around, just need to find the right one around here. thanks though.

Pics of my first true maiden voyage.

man.... that thing is gorgeous. nice work. yeah, always wanna be careful and look around during the "shakedown".... no matter how much you don't WANT to find something wrong!

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

actually, i probably should have updated the info on here... i've decided to go with a 360. those heads are good, and would be excellent for the 318, but for the 360 in my build is going to be quite a bit different. i'm going to run about 10:1 compression with the KB107 pistons, a custom grind...

well shoot, i'll just go with a B housing! i was also going to mini tub it and end up having to move the perches inward anyway when i put in my offset shackles. sounds like an interesting little modification you have there with the springs! i was gonna go with a pinion snubber as well as the...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

thanks pat, i love how good looking my car is, which is why i'm trying to do as little as possible on the appearance. i'm going to make custom wheels anyway- one out of a B-Body will do alright? i want to run some big ol' meats out back, around 315/60/15, if not wider.... going to go with SS...

yeah, it's always cool to see mopars in there. they have a few here and there, but of course, they're not usually as common as others... the bigger mopars get in more often than us of course.

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

that's a good idea joe. i have heard that it's relatively simple, and i actually have been thinking about changing it out. i heard they switched all of the As over to 5 on 4.5 in '74, and since i need to redo my front end anyway, i figured i could order all the replacement parts for a '74 and...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

i have also been thinking a lot about putting in a tach and a floor automatic shifter. it would be fun to go through the gears on the street (if i felt like it), and it would really help me out on the track. It's also sort of crucial to be able to tell RPM if you want to do anything performance...

i'm going to look at a whole bunch of 360s today. might find something worth dropping in! we'll see what happens, i'll take lots of photos too.

guys, i have yet to even SEE another scamp! it's so cool to find so many on here. that thing is a BEAUTY jiw! def qualifies as my car's sis!

it's a pretty cool setup- i have my air compressor hooked up and there's a plug in the wall for a welder as well!

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

thought i would post some more pics of the scamp, as well as my shop space. this was a couple months ago though-i have a lot more crap in that little space now. i have what's within those yellow lines, as well as the cage behind it. she was a little dirty, haven't been driving her too much...

Heres a vid of something unseen

it's unfortunate that nowadays it's turning into a two-sided fight. the big three aren't that big anymore, and all of us are just trying to keep it alive. it's about the era that has sort of come and gone.... for everyone but us. i'm 20 years old, and i was raised to be part of another...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

thanks fourspeed, i should have known that- i remember talking about it in class. sounds like i will need to find a different 360 block. there's a guy near me who has one, already punched .030 over, with new pistons and recon rods, stock crank. looking at getting that. he wants 400 for it ...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

found out my friend's wheels won't work- they're the larger bolt pattern. that's a bummer because they could hold 275s.... :( so i'm still on the lookout for either a pair or a set of wide steelies i can put my caps on. EDIT: man, i have had a pretty bad day as far as getting what i wanted. the...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

thanks guys! bluNblu, it does sound like it, but i have a feeling that this carb will work. the build i have been referring to for doing mine actually ran an 850 thermoquad. i think this 770 will fit nicely. i did not know holley did the rating differently than everyone else though. thank you...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

sounds like it'll fit then! i'm gonna actually end up with a different carburetor, a holley 770 truck avenger. i decided that 1) i'm not going to put a 4 barrel on THIS engine, and 2) what's the point in paying for something you can't adjust as if it was a holley? the street avenger has...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

thanks jeff! thanks for the welcome as well folks. been on here a while just not active. the thing i am worried about most though is that because the manifold is going to need a .75" spacer for the spread bore/square bore adapter plate, i may not be able to clear. i was thinking i could either...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

well, here we go! got a 4bbl 4160 electric choke today: i pulled out the intake i've had sitting around for so long: i took the heads to the machine shop today to get the valve job done on them. i think for now i'm going to leave the stock cam in it and just put the 4 bbl and the heads back...

yes, that style was created in Bellflower, CA. all i have seen them on are customs, that's what they came from. I didn't know they had turned into lowrider only... discourages me from doing it though. i'm pretty set on them, i think they'll really make the car stand out, but i def don't wanna...

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

oh yes, she will definitely be treated to a pertronix setup. maybe something more aggressive later. i would like to find some shorties, but i didn't see any that were affordable online. any suggestions?

    Happster's '72 scamp build!

well folks, i thought i might as well start early and make a thread. i'll get photos up in a bit. the scamp is a '72 with a 318 hooked up to a 904, and a 7 1/4 rear. it is almost completely original, besides getting a new vinyl top due to a torn up old one and some seat covers. i put 360 heads...
