    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Ok, I really wish the sun was out when I took the pics but here they are. Have a few minor issues to fix. a little dust but most of it will cut and buff out. A couple of light spots but so hard to tell with the color and light. Might re-shoot the hood as is has a couple of long scratches where...

Got the base coat on Sunday. It got late, we had been at it for 14 hours and decided to shoot the clear today. Fixed a few defects this afternoon and shot a tad bit more base. Then layed down 2 coats of clear. Still have the valances to paint but we held off as there was no room in our "booth"...

The Other 68 Dart Resto Project

I spent about 2 days reading this thread from start to finnish. Love the way you started out in an apartment one car garage, moved on to buying a house with an awesome work space. Shows how our car projects can mark milestones in our lives. Sometimes life gets in the way but you got it done...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Haven't updated in awhile so here goes. I primed about 3 weeks ago and it went on like cottege cheese. I am pretty shure it was a combination of the primer not being reduced enough and the panel temps too hot, it was 95 degrees and I was painting in direct sunlight. Anyway I had to use the DA...

    1970 Dart Swinger

I put another coat of primer on mine yesterday and of course the wind came up but it wasn't too bad. Did you paint your dart right where it sits? If so how did you keep crap out of the paint. I am too scared to paint my base/clear in the open air. Primer is one thing becouse it can be fix with...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Did the door jams and doors yesterday and today. The vin sticker on the door was covered with a clear sticker. The edges of the sticker under the clear had rust discolaration. I peeled the clear sticker off, cleaned up the rust stains and masked the underlaying vin sticker. After the...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Daughter went to her Grandparents house for the weekend so in between helping the wife clean the house I was able to weld up the stress cracks, finish sanding and shoot sealer, base, and clear on the underside of the hood. Next it's time to get the hood back on and start wet...

Good Tip! I welded up an aluminum bellhousing once before and thats what we did, never thought to do it with sheet metal.

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

I stripped the underside of the hood on Tuesday with a D/A sander and various wire wheels. Have a bit of touch up before its ready to prime. A lot of the paint coming off near the front smalled like radiator coolant, lol. Also have a bit of welding to do, this spot near the latch is cracked...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

This really is my first try at body work. I can weld sheet metal pretty well, lots of practice from building Derby Cars. I had never touched filler before though. I watched my brother in law with the mud and learned by trial and error. As for the painting I did the trunk by myself with a cheapo...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Havent worked on the Dart for about 2 months since it was Destruction derby Season and I was building two derby cars for the County Fair derby. Smashed up a 71 Fury and an 89 Crown Vic last week and won some money and now its time to get back into building something that I can get more than 20...

I didn't have a free hand to take a pic, I was too scared of scratching my new engine bay paint!

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Haven't posted in awhile but I have been working on the Dart just about every day. I rebuilt the door hinges and fixed the drivers side striker pin. Also put in lots of rubber bumpers bushings and firewall gaskets and seals along with polishing cleaning and painting just about every bracket nut...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

I did the trunk last night, lighting is not so good in the garage and I was working solo so no pics yet, I'll get some up soon though when I get it back out to sunlight. I need to do a little repair to the drivers side door striker before I hit the jams with color. After looking at the paint in...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

California car, this has been my car since 1996, when I bought it it was in excellent shape body wise. It was my daily driver until about 2002. After that it sat in the driveway and developed some rust under the top. Started restoration in December. Still hope to be driving by August. Color...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

It is a bench seat car. I have been looking on here and ebay for deals on tail lights, marker lights, weather stripping, carpet, etc. If I can't find a deal all of the stuff needed can be bought from Roseville, Dante's, Year One, Legendary Interiors, JC Whitney, Rock Auto, etc. Dante's has a...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

I plan on hanging onto this car. It was my first and has seen a lot of memories. The body probablly needed the least amount of work but thats where I started due to a minor accident, and then neglecting the paint and letting the top rust. It will get all new weather stripping, catwiskers, and...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Finnished primeing all of the panels during the week. Spent Saturday and Sunday block sanding and glazing the low spots. Hope to get another coat of high build on during the week so I can block some more. I did my best to pull out the indentations left when the emblems were deleted but...

Thanks for the tip, I will look into that. I know they reccomend baking soda and water, and then soap and water to wash panels after using aircraft stripper so maybe soap and water, dry it, scuff it and then shoot it. I only soda blasted a few key intricate areas.

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Got busy over the long weekend and finnished stripping my car to bare metal. Bought some DTM Epoxy 2K 3 in one primer today as well. I also used my soada blaster to finnish stripping the areas where the DA can't reach such as the cowl vent louvers. Now how to get all that baking soda out of...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Really wish I knew the answer. I know I want it the same color, Y1 Bananna, other than that I am still weighing the benifits of several types of paint systems. I need to decide quickly as bare metal rusts quick! Thinking about hitting it with an etch primer soon to solve the bare metal flash...

    My 1970 Dart Swinger

Kind of new around here but not new to Mopars. I bought this 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger in 1996 for $400. It needed a few things like a battery and starter, points and a spare tire but I drove it 75 miles home without any problems. Over the years it needed just about everything and keeping this car...
