Changing intake gasket on a 170, any tips?

a leaking exhaust pipe will cause backfire on deceleration, a timing problem will pop through the carb, a bad accellerator pump will cause a pop in the carb and stumble on acceleration. so many possable problems.

    Slant Six Dual Exhaust

i did exhause systems for 20 years on everything from hot rods, to stock cars . from giant motors to 6 bangers. good rule of thumb of restriction and pipe size is less restriction = better top end. more restriction = better low end and torque.

slant six cranks but won't start

i have to add my 2 cents on this, because when working on one of mine, i forgot to re-attach the fuel line to the pump, and for some reason it wouldnt start... :violent1: I also forgot to put a coil wire back on after messing with the wires. My point is check the simple things before you make...

Could someone help me with this?

i had the same problem with two of my slants, and what i found was the fuel line was clogged, and it also messed up the carb and fuel pump. from time to time if its really hot, it will act up, but nothing like before. i added a fuel filter before the fuel pump, and have the one in its original...

    slant question as to years.

well ive learned that the early through 66 slants are different then the 67 and newer as far as the crank when using an auto tranny, so now my question is, what about the newer years, say early or pre 80s even. not really seen much about the newer years and the interchangability.

    seized slant six

lot of work and money to change from a 6 to an 8, if you do it right. my 69 2 door slant, broke a ring and then the ring broke the top of the piston. i have a newly rebuilt 360 on the garage floor and thought about dropping that in, but dont want to make all the other changes.

    Exhaust for a slant

doing exhaust for over 20 years , i found what they say is true, which is : larger pipe (more flow) = less low end, more top end, less clearance smaller pipe (less flow) = more low end, less top end. Duel exhaust (more flow)= less low end, more top end, less clearance, less money in pocket. i...
