Which ones, long tube or shorty's...? 1-3/4?

    383/496 stroker

My son is also looking at doing a 470 or 499 stroker in the future, based on a 400 that we picked up. What headers are you guys using in an A body ?

Header options for a B-engine stroker in a Dart?

This will probably be a semi-daily driver, so reasonable street manners are in order. This is a manual trans car, so convertor stall speeds aren't an issue.

Header options for a B-engine stroker in a Dart?

The Schumachers are 1-5/8 tubes with a 2-1/2 inch collector. We're looking for hp in the 550-600 range on the stroker and I just think that's asking too much from 1-5/8 tubes.

Header options for a B-engine stroker in a Dart?

Picked up a clean 400 and am looking to go to a 499 stroker. What options do I have for headers if I want to keep power steering in a '68 Dart? Currently the car has a 383 with Schumacher headers, but I don't think the Schumachers will flow enough for the stroker......

Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum Rockers to replace PRW Rockers?

Thanks for the reply, but with only 10k on your rockers I wouldn't expect any problems either. My question is will they hold up well for say, 50K... or 75K...?

Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum Rockers to replace PRW Rockers?

I have a question: who has experience with the Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum rockers arms and shafts (p/n 1621-16) in a big block (383 in my case). I just purchased a set of these to replace a set of PRW stainless roller tip rockers which have mostly used up their shaft bushings after only 12,000...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Thank you all. My son is having a blast with it. Now he's getting a feel for the new 4-speed we just put in... should make the car more fun when he autocrosses it. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=300031

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

One Year Anniversary...!! Well, the 383 has been up and running for just over a year now. Not even a hiccup. We replaced the Holley 600 with a Demon 625, which we're really happy with. We also added a cold-air intake, which made a HUGE difference in how the car runs, especially on hot days...

Slant 6 to big block in 68 Cuda

We did a 383 swap in my son's '68 Dart. Used the Schumacher mounts and headers, which made it easier. If you stick with the 727, use a Lokar flexible trans dipstick. The stock one hit the firewall for us. Also consider using a flexible engine oil dipstick. We got the stock one to work by...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Well, after checking and re-checking all the preload and side clearances, we have come to the conclusion that the valvetrain noise is the nature of the cam, a Comp Cams XE262, which after a lot of research it seems the XE series have a rep for being noisy due to very steep closing ramps. The car...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

A little update. My son's been driving the car to school every day. Had to install a shroud so it would idle in traffic without overheating. Still a little finicky about that, but workable. Might go with a slightly smaller water pump pulley to up the pump and fan speed at idle. At anything above...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Ran it in for another 10 minutes last night and started working on the idle quality. It's definitely sensitive to float level. Right now we're at about 10 deg BTDC idling at 700-800 rpm. We'll play with the idle screws and float levels to see if we can improve any, but its not bad now. Cooling...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Well, we took the carb off once it cooled a bit, and sure enough there was a chunk of gasket material stuck in the secondary needle. Don't know how we missed that, but we did. Cleaned it out and the carb is back on the motor. We'll retorque the heads tomorrow and set the base timing and idle...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

It Lives...!!!!!! Got it started up this afternoon, with a few small issues. The secondary needle/seat is won't seal off, so the secondary boosters leak fuel, and we need to adjust at least one rocker based on the noise from the valve covers. But other than that, it fired right up and we ran...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Well, we ran into another fit issue. Looks like the small block Champion rad we have doesn't fit because the inlet is in the center and the fan won't clear. So we're going to bite the bullet on a new 26 inch 3 row Champion with the inlet on the passenger side where it will clear. So we're...

New 383 Build for My Son's '68 Dart

Latest update: We've been busy hooking up the various connections, re-routing some wiring, fabricating a new exhaust system, etc, etc.... Our OEM trans dipstick tube leaks badly, and it was hard up against the firewall, so we ordered a Lokar flexible dipstick tube. Also waiting on a radiator...

Installation Day !!!! First thing we figured out was it would be much easier if the heater motor wasn't in the way of the right MP valve cover, so we removed the heater motor and plenum. It's Florida... how often are we gonna use a heater..? Seriously though, we're planning to install an...

Well, finally got all the little jobs done, trans tunnel cleaned and painted, and the power steering is in. Will probably try to install the enigne/trans this Friday, as my son has off, and courtesy of the US Gov't, so do I...... Photo of the new Steer N Gear box installed.
