My son is also looking at doing a 470 or 499 stroker in the future, based on a 400 that we picked up. What headers are you guys using in an A body ?

This will probably be a semi-daily driver, so reasonable street manners are in order. This is a manual trans car, so convertor stall speeds aren't an issue.

The Schumachers are 1-5/8 tubes with a 2-1/2 inch collector. We're looking for hp in the 550-600 range on the stroker and I just think that's asking too much from 1-5/8 tubes.

Picked up a clean 400 and am looking to go to a 499 stroker. What options do I have for headers if I want to keep power steering in a '68 Dart? Currently the car has a 383 with Schumacher headers, but I don't think the Schumachers will flow enough for the stroker......

Thanks for the reply, but with only 10k on your rockers I wouldn't expect any problems either. My question is will they hold up well for say, 50K... or 75K...?

Ran it in for another 10 minutes last night and started working on the idle quality. It's definitely sensitive to float level. Right now we're at about 10 deg BTDC idling at 700-800 rpm. We'll play with the idle screws and float levels to see if we can improve any, but its not bad now. Cooling...

Well, we took the carb off once it cooled a bit, and sure enough there was a chunk of gasket material stuck in the secondary needle. Don't know how we missed that, but we did. Cleaned it out and the carb is back on the motor. We'll retorque the heads tomorrow and set the base timing and idle...

Got a little more done tonight. Got the old manual steering box and steering shaft out and the new power steering shaft in. Will try to get the K-member notched tomorrow and welded/cleaned/repainted over the weekend. Then we'll install the new Steer n Gear power box......

Do you think its possible to do the install with the steering column in place..?? We have to pull ours anyway to do a power steering conversion, but we were going to install the column before the new motor goes in...

The converter was built to have a 2000 stall. The rear is a 3.23 8-3/4 with an Eaton True-Trac diff. He'll just have to take his time and learn slowly.....

Picked up the 727 trans and converter from JW Transmission on Monday. Here's the trans with the cable kickdown brackets installed. Will probably try to pull the old 318 out of the Dart over the weekend......

Installed the Schumacher headers today. Schumacher says we can install the engine with the headers on..... Guess we'll find out....
