I went through the Kelsey-Hayes Brakes section of the 1972 FSM 3 times a couple of days ago & couldn't find much of anything on how to replace the rotor itself. About all it mentioned was how to remove it & replace it along with the hub.

I did a 7 1/4 with 9" brakes swap to an 8 3/4 with 10" brakes & the cables switched right over. I think you should be good. I read a trick for getting old cables out of the backing plates was to put a hose clamp around them. Never tried it though.

I agree about the cluster.......... As far as what axles he got...It would be nice if Moser would post the specs on their site. If they said what the register size is it would (maybe) help clear things up. Probably best to call them on Monday & find out for sure what's going on.

Have you tried using the backing plate from the 10" x 1 3/4" brakes?

Looks like maybe Inline Tube got smart & fixed the problem with the junction block. I just found one of their vendors selling this item on eBay. Does this look like it would fix the problem? First pic is the new style, second pic is the old style.

Are you talking about the front or rear? There were some wider sbp 10" drums used on front. I think they were 2". I know because I have a set from a 69 (I believe) Formula S sitting in my shop. They're 10" diameter & definitely don't look like the 1 3/4" wide rear stuff.

If you really want to do EVERYTHING, you need 2 brake drums, 2 wheel cylinders, a set of brake shoes and a hardware kit. You'll also need some brake fluid & it would help to have a set of brake spring pliers but they're not absolutely necessary. If your buddy has done it before maybe he has...
