Gauge Temp Lower Than Radiator Temp..??

I'm gonna be inclined to say your dash gauge is wrong. It seems impossible to me for the engine to ve cooler than the radiator. Try getting an infared thermometer and aiming it at the t-stat housing.

Um............. Wait.......... The top hose is hot and the bottom is cool right? That means the radiator is working..........:banghead:

    Heater heat

If you dont know what temp the thermostat is then its probably time to replace it Rani. Test the new one in a pot of water with a cooking thermometer as outlined before, some new ones are bad out the box. If its below 50* I wouldn't hesitate getting a 205 thermostat, just make sure when the...

    My Cooling Improvement Project (hopefully)

I think you're 160 thermostat is the problem. It opens too soon and the water just keeps flowing throughoutt the radiator not giving the water time to cool. Hence the high idle temps. Try a 180 for ***** and giggles.

What does the temp gauge represent?

I know you wasn't trying to tell him that everything was but I was merely using you as a "case in point" example. I agree as far as everything else you say, a California car will definitely run warmer than mine lol! BTW, thanks for confirming my information to be correct. I always worry when...

What does the temp gauge represent?

I have a 190 thermostat in my car and my gauge reads here where the exclamation point is located: C|-|-!-----|-|H Not here like a previous member stated: C|-|---!---|-|H Now, not saying he's wrong and I'm right. The whole point of me saying this is, wiring makes a big difference. I...

    My heat sucks

That's what I was thinking myself, but I'm not sure if I'm up for that project. That's more along the lines of what I was hoping, maybe. I do have a 1975 Factory service manual that I got from my auto teacher when he retired, but I didn't have a 70 manual till now. Thank you so much for that...

    My heat sucks

I bypassed it and then later ripped it out if the car because it was a useless piece of junk that I've neen fighting with since dad gave me the car. Down here was where I talked about that, but I didn't describe the situation very well because I forgot what the valve was called. My bad...

    My heat sucks

    1. There's plenty of flow to and from the heater core, as confirmed when I flushed my cooling system. 2. If the flapper valve you're talking about is right above the transmission tunnel, then it's rubber banded closed.

    My heat sucks

The door doesn't move at all, It's been rubberbanded shut every winter since we bought the car. :D And as for the heater hoses, yes, they were hot before and after I relocated them. The heater core was the first thing I flushed before I focused on the rest of the cooling system.

    My heat sucks

So, my heat epically sucks. The begining of this winter I noticed my heater was blowing ice cold air. So after screwing with that stupid valve on the passenger side inner fender and eventually got it so that the air blowing out was this luke warm room temperature bs. So for the hell of it, I...

    electric fan sensor location

This sounds like the best Idea to me as it would give the most accurate reading of the radiator temperature. But you have fixed your problem so that's only my 2 cents of post-thought.
