The 15.75 is cold 1 minute after startup. I feel like its dropped a field or two. At hot idle in gear any load dips the ammeter slightly torwards discharge, just the brake lights will do so. Before you ask, I dont know what my idle is at.

Just hook your field wire from the VR to one field post. Hook the other field post to ground.

I like my ammeter. Id rather not get rid of it. Ammeters tell you way more about your charging system than a voltmeter ever will.

The ammeter is always centered except for a few moments after starting or during times of idle in gear with a load on the electrical system. No jumps or any indication of any issues outside the issue that the alternator has failed and doesnt put out enough on idle.

No but I know its a little weak. I know while running the voltage at battery should be above 12.6 and under 14.5 volts, what about the main battery wire at the alternator? Same or .2 volts higher? The ammeter works, does that rule that out or is there a test to run to determine failure?

And yes, if you dont use the lighter just unplug it and put a wire nut over the wire so it dont short to the dash. I cant tell you if the lighting issues are related but now that we know what kind of car it is, I am sure someone will be able to. Welcome to the forum BTW!

Why not just wire two diodes into the speaker wires coming off both radios so that the power from the amplifier on one radio doesnt backfeed into the amp on the other and fry it?

All you got to do is find a wire thats always hot regardless of key, or just run a circuit straight from hot and use an inline fuse. Ground to the hood or run a wire beside the hot down to a fenderwell and ground to body. Whatever you do, make sure the light is protected by a fuse.
