The input shaft/gear might be the same as your 3.09 trans. Check the tooth counts. Other than the synchro assemblies and the side cover and shift forks, the rest is different.

Are you installing it with the engine in the car? Are you using the magnum pilot bearing. If so a block of wood and a hammer will do the trick.

The reverse gears are straight cut, they make a howling noise. that might be your sound.

What shifter adaptor are you using? That is the piece that the shifter bolts to. Or the piece between the gear vendors plate adaptor and the shifter. Looks like you might have an early abody unit ('64ish). That unit tips or angles the shifter forward quite a bit. Try one from later model 68...

Yes there is a drawing in the mopar chassis manual. It is drilling a few holes in a specific location. If someone else doesn't post one up, I will try and find it tonight.

The 318 flywheel will not work with your 360. It will bolt on but the balnce is incorrect. All the 318's are neutral balanced. 360's require counterweighting on the flywheel and harmonic balancer to be balanced. 318's do not.

The best way to check it is with a feeler gauge between the disc and the pressure plate with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor. That way you can 100 percent ensure the disc is released or not. That is impossible with an explosion proof bellhousing. To work around this you could drill a hole...

I swapped one in years ago. Used a later mainshaft and tailshaft housing and everything worked fine. The 3.09 first gear is great for launches

They did put the a833 OD unit in some GM trucks. Is that what that is.

Just for interest sake, do your A body transmissions have the small (904 size) of the large (727) size output shaft? The A/F body one I have takes the small 904 size slip yolk. The truck ones I have use the 727 yolk.

Even if you could grind enough material out, the starter won't fit. You need to get the correct flywheel and clutch.

I have an OD (overdrive) 833 with a 904 yolk. I am thinking thats what you have. Ceck the in and out ratios for 3rd and 4th gear. 4th is still 1:1 but 3rd in OD. They flipped the linkage plate to make it shift in the right order.

Here are the pictures of a floor cutout and some measurements. Not only is the flange missing but part of the cover is missing in the top front area.

I think the guy also cut off the flange that welds to the floor off. You should consider getting a repo. I do have a floor cutout that I will post pictures of.
