    What parts are needed

Like Fishy said you will need a different carrier. The 2.45 carrier is it's own animal. Chuck

    833 liberty crash box

I ran one in the 80's in my Chevy truck and it was just like Hemi GTS said. It was cool for a while but became annoying within a month. I swapped in a "normal" 833 and was much better for street use. If you are ever interested in selling it let me know. I have been thinking of converting...

    741 Center Section question?

Most a-bodies, even into the 70's came with 741's from the factory. It was Mopars way of using up old housing stock. 741's are very underrated. Being 741's have a straight pinion it requires a spacer for the shims. Chuck

'75 A model 8.25 worth upgrading or leave as is?

You only need to change the carrier to change from 2.45's. The housing are the same. No suregrip available for the 2.45's. There are tons of pre '76 8 1/4's around. Look in 1/2 ton trucks and vans. I got my 3.21's out of a '74 Dodge van. Chuck

    518

A three pin will be a lock up, a two pin would be a non lockup. The truck would have had a "OD Off" button on the dash. The '92 B350 van I parted out for the tranny it was next to the headlight switch. it was an orange square button. Chuck

    Rear Axle Identification

E-bodies are the only car rears with the dimensions you mentioned. I don't know anything about the seller or company that sold you the lines but almost all of us here have had mis-packaged parts one time or another. Could it possibly be a truck rear? I don't have any truck rear specs. A truck...

    Moser vs Strange

8 3/4's were not available in a truck after '74. If the rear is truely out of a '79 then it is not an 8 3/4 and will either be an 8 1/4 or 9 1/4. As far as the companies listed. I presently have Moser, Strange and Dutchman Axles and have had no issue with any of them. I have been using...

    GM OD tranny fit?

Being an old Buick guy before I was a Mopar guy, stock to stock GM does not build a trans as good as a Mopar trans. I used to put 833's in my stick cars because I couldn't get a Muncie to live. This doesn't mean a GM trans couldn't be made to work but why? When you have a perfectly good trans...

    Cost to cut down a C body 8 3/4?

I do the housings for $200 and I supply the ends. I believe he is asking about shortening the stock axles. The last time I checked into have stock ones shortened the cost was less than $100 difference than purchasing new axles. I just use new axles. Chuck

    8 3/4 Rearend Question

I relocated the spring hangers on my "original" 8 3/4 and sleep just fine at night. I now have a narrowing jig and could build another housing to A-body width, put it in my car and know one would ever know. Chuck

    8 3/4 Rearend Question

If it was an original car Dana rear then I wouldn't mess with it but it is just an 8 3/4. A drain plug and top fill plug sure would be nice if you are always changing the pumpkin. Chuck

    Anybody Running a 4L60?

If you are looking for something smaller sized use the 2004R. This is the trans Buick put in the Grand Nationals and T Type Regals. They are stronger than the 700R4 and just as strong as the L60. But being an old GM guy I wouldn't use any of their trannys. They are not good. I used to put...

    worth the $$$ difference

8-3/4 3rd Member to Housing Nut Torque?

    Rear End Noise 8 3/4

If it just recently started whining it very well could be the inner pinion bearing going south. On acceleration the inner (large) pinion bearing is taking most of the load. Regardless if it's the ring & pinion or bearings it needs to be opened up. I would also agree that a 4x4/truck repair...

    1984 A833 truck slant 6

The truck 833 tranny are basically like the B-body 833. It is not a direct bolt in like one from a Volare or Aspen but it can be made to work. If my memory serves me right there is someone on here with a truck 833 in their a-body. You will need a V8 bell with a 5 1/8" center hole. Chuck
