    Garage Flooring

I've been working on the garage adding lights and shelves and would also like to do something with the floor. There are no cracks but the surface has chipped in some places and is rough. I know I would have to repair it with epoxy or something but would also like to either epoxy coat the whole...

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Got the thing all wired in and runs great. However I am going to have to put a new one way check valve in now. It leaks back through the head and out the regulator line and if you tap the valve with a hammer it closes but still leaks a small amount of air.

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Thanks! Now I need to figure out what I need to wire the thing. I know I need to use 10/2 or 10/3 wire. I want to wire in a safety switch between the compressor and the main but don't know which one to use as everyone I see on homedepot or lowes is only rated to 3hp. Also, I read that it's...

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Made some pads to set it on. Used 1/8" plate, 3/8-16 all thread, and 318 valve springs/retainers to help dampen any vibration, lol.

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

I did clean and check that valve. I would blow through it then suck and couldn't get any air to suck through it.

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Well got er all together with the new parts. Holds air without a leak so far by just turning the pump by hand(before I put the guard on. The pump was so grimy and oily but got it cleaned up and put some synthetic oil in it.

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Took the tank to my place of employment this morning and blasted it. Got it primed and painted just using good ol Rustoleum gloss black. Switching out all the steel pipe fittings with brass as well. Also, changing up the drain configuration and doing away with the petcock. The other parts are...

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

Sand blasted some of the parts today at work. The flywheel, belt cover and brackets. Will post pics soon. Will paint the flywheel cast iron gray and the rest of the stuff gloss black. Edit: Just ordered a new belt, transfer tube, the small tube to the switch, pressure gauge, and felt air...

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

A couple pics of the thing. I'm going to tear it down and replace the aluminum lines with copper as well as seals as you can see they are leaking. Will also blast and paint some of the pieces as the surface rust really bugs me. :) Also, as you can see in the last pic, the wires have gotten hot...

    Scored On An Air Compressor!

I posted a couple weeks ago about wanting to wire in a 240/30amp in my garage for a decent air compressor. Well, yesterday I was going to a friends house to borrow his chainsaw. He has had an air compressor sitting outside for the last year and a half next to his shed that another friend was...

    Need Help: 240v in Garage?

The one pictured with the 100amp service is the main for the house. The 50amp is in the garage which was put in by an electrician company here in town with all new wiring throughout the garage, receptacles, etc. I'm sure the service coming to the house is 200amp at the meter but for whatever...

    Need Help: 240v in Garage?

Would it depend on which equipment requires which wire type? How do I find out what is required in my area?

    Need Help: 240v in Garage?

So, I could actually junction off the garage and have a box for the compressor as I'm also looking at the IR 5hp 60gal. Then I could run a second 30amp to an actual plug for a welder. I just couldn't run them both at the same time. At least I wouldn't have the inconvenience of having to unplug...

    Need Help: 240v in Garage?

The main in the house is a Siemens I-T-E Indoor Load Center. Catalog no. G1224MB1100 100amp max w/100amp main 120/240v AC Single Phase 3 wire. Breaker for garage has the double 50 amp switch.

    Need Help: 240v in Garage?

Good afternoon everyone! I'm looking to buy a new air compressor and am wanting to make sure I can support a decent one as well as be able to run a decent welder with 220/240. My dilemma is I know basic wiring but not sure anything above a standard wall receptacle or light switch, lol. I'd...

    welding 101

I just watched the video and some of the information needs adjusted. It depends on what wire you use on whether or not to weave or oscillate the weld puddle. It also depends on the joint configuration. Weaving or oscillating with a flux cored or shielded wire tends to trap slag in the joint...

    welding 101

A lot of good advice here. There are many factors when welding to consider. Material and Material thickness. Type of wire and diameter of wire. Gas or no gas. What mixture of gas. Some wire may sound like "sizzling bacon" but others may not...like a dual shield wire or a "hard wire" (ER70-s)...

    what welding helmet to use

Jackson with auto-darkening. Jacksons are prob the most common/popular hoods. I paid $120 for it with the 2"x4" auto darkening 7yrs ago. Still works like new and I use it everyday at work.

    new welder

Nice one, we have about a 6 or so of those at work. Someone actually was ballzy enough to steal one too...about a month after the owner bought them. You could see where they set it on the chain link fence (all pushed down) while they had a truck backed to the fence. We believe it was a two man...

This is what 36hrs overtime got me!

Haha, lol Well I do have a little 110 at home, paid like $125 for it at Advanced Auto Parts a few years ago. Good enough to make homemade tools and such. Will actually burn into 1/4 and 5/16 really well surprisingly.

This is what 36hrs overtime got me!

Very True statement! Nothing worse than trying to weld with a machine that gives fits and problems. Especially when they're more than 10% out of calibration of what your settings say. At work, maintenence will go around every 3-4mo and check/calibrate our machines. I think it may also be a...
