8 3/4 rear end worn out or not?

Jack the rear up, put car in neutral (with e-brake off), spin one wheel if the other wheel on the other side spins the same direction you have a sure grip or some other traction device. If it spins the other way you have an open rear.

Ford 8.8" Rear... Should I do it?

Ranger axles & exploder axles are the same minus the leaf spring perches. They share many similar parts.

833 4 speed pics - what condition is this in?

4 hrs away (8 hrs round trip) was the distance I had to go to get my 4 speed conversion parts. I got everything but a new clutch & clutch fork an included non-od trans, pedals, linkage, shifter, floor hump, 130 tooth flywheel, lakewood bellhousing, ecc... I paid $400. Good deal I think, insides...

    1974 dart 3 on tree

Bell housing and Z-bar will be different. Not sure about the 3 on the tree linkage tho. To answer your strength question they put those 3 speeds as standard equipment behind 340s and 383s.

    4 Speed Id

I think crackback hit it on the nail. See how one tab is up and ones down for the shift rods. Overdrive 4 speed trans are like that. It is an A/F body trans.

    8.75 for my A-body

Most vans and trucks had lower gears from the factory in them (3.55, 3.91, 4.10) and a pretty good chance of being a sure grip.

Add your abody driveshaft length for quick reference

    What about an early A-body ('65 Barracuda) with a 273, 4 speed, 8 3/4 rear? Thanks

Where did you guys find your 8 3/4's?

I got mine off of Craigslist. Wasn't really looking for one then, but I knew I was going to need one and it was a great price. I paid $300 drum to drum, sbp, 742 case open 2.76 gears. I think the seller was limelite. It came out of a '72 Duster Twister 318 auto. It wasn't even all crusty & still...

DON'T DO IT!!!! Find a C-body axle for cheap (usually under $100) and shorten it.

    rearend question.......

That video was great! Now I know what all the other gears are for:book:
  14. 67valiant 100

    3.55 or 3.91

I'd go with the 3.91s because the little 318 is an engine that can rev. Also because you plan on racing it more than cruising in it.

    73 dart swinger project

The overdrive A833 would be perfect. Its pretty much a 3 speed with 4th being the over drive gear. There pretty common & cheap, just look for an aluminum trans. They were made from '75- the mid '80s. The later ones I don't recommend being that they have longer tail shafts and come from trucks...

    Split monoleafs

Maybe their both left springs but you need a different one for the right? Both say Lf &Lr (Lf= left front & Lr = left rear maybe)

'75 A model 8.25 worth upgrading or leave as is?

I didn't know you could have gotten 2.45:1 gears in an A-body...... I only thought they came in later '70s-'80s car. Learning something new every day:cheers:

    Rear End Questions...

Get an 8 3/4 for that type of money. I got my A-body 8 3/4 complete ( but with 2.76 open diff.) for $300 and it wasn't even crusty looking.

    8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear end in my Duster 340?

So your saying that if you got drums all the way around then they would be sbp thous using the 8 3/4 because it only came in sbp while the 8 1/4 came only in lbp which would be use with disc brake equipped cars?:dontknow:
