    5 Speed swap

Now, to be fair, I’ve never driven a car with a t56, tr6060, tkx, etc. so I really can’t compare in that aspect. I did have a mustang with a T5 at one point, but that’s been 11 years ago. I also don’t have much experience driving old cars with automatics either. My only 904/727 experience was my...

    5 Speed swap

I still don’t see the issue. If a 904 with 4.10’s works behind a built engine with a bigger cam, then this will work also.

    5 Speed swap

I’ve gotta disagree with you on the 3.83 gear being worthless in a car. Like Dion said, check out my early post (post #10), you simply need to run the appropriate rear gears.

    5 Speed swap

Correct, I ran 3.23 gears initially and 1st gear was worthless outside of taking off on a hill, after swapping to 2.76’s I shift it like any other 5 speed, aside from when I’m auto crossing, then I can run faster times if I start off in 2nd. Don’t spin as easily off the line and don’t need to...

    5 Speed swap

Yup. 20 year old me on a super small budget wasn’t gonna be able to afford a T56 swap, so AX15 it was… that’s been 9 years and 18,000 miles ago and she’s still doing GREAT behind my stock 5.9.

    5 Speed swap

This can be worked around. For example, the ax-15 ratios in my Duster are 1st - 3.83 2nd - 2.33 3rd - 1.44 4th - 1.00 5th - .79 Running those ratios with 2.76 rear gears gives you almost IDENTICAL acceleration in the first three gears as a 904 with 4.10’s, plus gives you 2 more gears. And a .79...

    5 Speed swap

This is the exact master/slave cylinder setup I used in my ax15 swap. And like you said, the pushrod length wasn’t correct, so I cut out a section of the rod, threaded the ends of the cut rods and put it back together with a coupling nut to give me adjustability.

    Ax15 Trans

Correct. Since I’m running a 96 5.9 magnum, I bought a flywheel and pilot bearing from rock auto for a 96 pickup and bolted everything up. Only non oem dodge part that I used was a clutch master/slave cylinder setup from a round nosed s10.

    Ax15 Trans

Definitely not what I would choose with a bigger budget, but I probably did the whole swap in mine for $600-700 and it was a bolt together deal with mostly oem dodge parts. Next trans to go in my Duster will be an 8hp70 or t56

    Ax15 Trans

Yeah I’ve been running an AX-15 behind a 5.9 magnum in my 72 Duster for the past 4 years and 15,*** miles (8,500 of those coming between September-January). It’s 99% a street car but I have run it down the strip a few times and autocrossed it some. I’m running 2.76’s with 25.6” tires. I had...

    273 5 speed conversion to ax15??

Here’s my shifter in my Duster. For the most part, I like my AX-15 swap, it’s not the smoothest shifting trans by far but still better than a non OD 3 speed. Main thing I wanna change with mine is to go from 3.23 rear gears to 2.76s. 1st gear is nearly useless with 3.23s and 25.5” tires.

    65 Dartman (ax-15 gearing Info)

@65 Dartman heres a screen shot of a gear speed comparison. As you can see, if you have two cars, both running 255/60/14s (or any other tires as long as both cars have the same size tire) and one is running a low gear set 904 with 4.10s and the other is running an AX-15 with 2.76s the cars have...

Bernie? Is that you? Wow. Campaining hasn't been kind to you!! Lol

4 speed od or 5 speed

The ax-15 has a 3.83 first gear. I was worried about first being useless but if you run a 3.08 or higher (2.76,2.94,etc) gear in the rear end the low first gear will then be the same as a 904 with 3.91-4.10s plus you get great cruising rpms on the highway!

4 speed od or 5 speed

My cheap headers (don't know what they are, they were on the car when I got it) cleared everything. It's sort of a pain bolting the starter in and hooking up the cables but once it's in everything clears.

4 speed od or 5 speed

Doesn't even need to be a V8 dakota. The V6s have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. I got all my stuff out of a 90 or 92 v6 dakota and it bolts right up to a SBM I have the flywheel, mini starter and bell bolted to my 318 to get it running but needed to buy a 5.9 flywheel to swap in my 5.9...

4 speed od or 5 speed

No idea. I myself never knew anything about these trans missions till 1-2 years ago but I'm only 21 and never messed with Dakotas or jeeps. I'd say bang for buck on a stock/mild small block these could be about the best 5 speed swap out there. But I'll know more once I get mine in.... Also, you...

4 speed od or 5 speed

There's no definite torque rating on these transmissions. Some ppl claim they won't hold up to any torque but I know of 2 guys runnin em behind gen3 hemis and not taking it easy on em and they're holdin up just fine. I think it'll live just fine behind my stock 5.9 magnum.

4 speed od or 5 speed

I disagree with some of the comments about the dakota trans. For instance, if you're swapping in an AX15 trans (I realize that's not what you have) you don't have to modify the floor itself at all. Yes you need to notch the upper crossmember a little to clear the shifter but not much. Also, as...
