    that was kinda my point, stock mag was rated at 335 or something? so it was at least 50hp more. Those stock cams had a ton of overlap compared to a modern cam with the same specs (gain low end) then with a dual plane and 750 holley it would be set.

    i know of a couple of motors on pump junk running 15:1, they have big cams and water until they swap carbs and run alky.

    exactly... EGT's are the "final product" if you will, they tell you what is going on which with other known variables can help watch other issues that may be coming up. Everything effects EGT's.

    why would that change with fuel octane and timing, i could maybe see a loose wrist pin due to changes in cylinder pressure but not really sold
