    6 Speed Slant Six

Wow! What's it going into? Sure beats a three-speed on the column!

    3.23 R/P for a 7 1/4?

I've driven my Dart over 3000 miles in two years, and the rear end has always whined on the drive side. It sounds like it's picking up a rhythmic howl/noise now at certain speeds, and it's probably only a matter of time before I'll have to do something about it. I replaced the axle seals...

No C-Clips on this one, just one stuck axle...

    7 1/4 axle stuck--any ideas?

Well, I have a leaking axle seal in my '65 Dart, and I've tried a puller, I've pulled the cover and tried prying between the cross shaft and the axle itself, and the axle just won't budge. I pulled the four nuts from the retainer...any ideas???

7.25 Axle Seals and Other Such Fun

From what I've gathered on here and on slantsix.org, it only has one seal per side and a sealed bearing that presses on the axle. The seal is located inboard of the bearing. I was able to order the parts through my local O'Reilly's, so we'll see. I'll tear into it early next week and report back.

7.25 Axle Seals and Other Such Fun

I just looked back through the archives and found what I hope are the correct numbers. Just got them ordered...

7.25 Axle Seals and Other Such Fun

My '65 Dart's left axle seal sprung a big leak, and the left brake is filled with gear oil now. First, does the 7.25 have two axle seals? I seem to find conflicting information. Anyone have any part numbers for the seals? (And bearings if you have them...I might get those out of the...

    A-903 Shifter arm bushings?

Here's what I'm talking about...of course, I eventually have to do something about those shift shaft seals too!

    A-903 Shifter arm bushings?

I didn't take any pictures while I was under there... If I get a chance tomorrow, I will, but you probably won't be able to see it past the transmission leaks! :)

    A-903 Shifter arm bushings?

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I was precise (oops). I'm talking about the bushings on the actual transmission levers that the shift rods attach to.

    A-903 Shifter arm bushings?

I was just underneath my '65 Dart today replacing the steering box, and I noticed that the bushings in the shifter arms (that the shift rods attach to) are shot. Now, the three on the tree is already precise, so why not make it more so by putting in new bushings? :) Anyone know where I...

    Ford speedometer gear for 3-speed?

It's a '65 A-903. From what I've found those gears are pretty tough to come by. I'm running a little shorter tire, but I calculated the gear ratio, and it's a 3.23, so the revs aren't all that bad, about 3300 at 70.

    Oil for 3-speed?

I double checked the service manual and did some online research, and it all said that trans. uses ATF. I just changed to Dexron III...It's easy to change with the filler plug on the bottom. I don't notice any difference in shifting or noise. I think gear oil would be equally acceptable. My...

    Oil for 3-speed?

I just read (after filling it with 80W-90 and driving 50 miles) that non-synchro 3-speeds take automatic transmission fluid! Anyone know if that's true? If it is, I have to get that gear oil out of there ASAP! This is in a '65 Dart with a Slant.

    Ford speedometer gear for 3-speed?

I've been driving my Dirty Dart around a little lately, and through my GPS, I've figured out that my speedometer is about 6% fast. Going 70, the speedo says 78, 40 is about 43. I counted the teeth when the speedo gear was out, and I believe it was a 19 tooth gear. I read somewhere where you...
